Explanatory notes

1Definitions
Team refers to a group of two or more people, one of whom has formal authority to act as leader, working to achieve a common workplace goal or objective, with the group having collective responsibility for the outcome.
Teamwork is the joint action by a team to complete a given task.
Team fit is the ability to work well with a team of people who may have diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds; to operate within organisational norms of behaviour, manners, dress and language; and show respect for differing systems of belief in a workplace.
Work team is a team of employees that combine different skills and talents to work without the usual managerial supervision toward a common purpose or goal.
Forming, storming, norming, and performing are terms used in the team development model proposed by: B Tuckman, ‘Developmental sequence in small groups’ (1965) Psychological Bulletin, 636, 384-399.

2Candidates must be supervised during assessment against this unit standard.

Evidence requirements

1.1Different types of work teams are identified in accordance with the operations of a workplace.

Rangeevidence is required for a minimum of two different types of work team.

1.2Teamwork is identified that can contribute to the achievement of an individual’s objectives in the workplace.

Rangeevidence is required for a minimum of two different work roles and objectives.

1.3Teamwork is identified that can contribute to the achievement of organisational objectives.

1.4Potential consequences of dysfunctional teams are identified.

Rangeevidence is required for a minimum of two potential consequences.

1.5The stages of team development are described.

Rangemay include but not limited to – forming, storming, norming, and performing.

1.6Team fit is identified in terms of attributes, attitudes, and communication styles in a workplace setting.
