21st International Reid Bioanalytical Forum

7-10th September, 2015

University of Surrey, Guildford, UK

Presented by the Forum Syndicate of the Chromatographic Society

The first Forum met in 1975 organised by the late Eric Reid, then director of the Wolfson Bioanalytical Unit at the University of Surrey. It has run every two years since, making this the 21st meeting. Now run under the auspices of the Chromatographic Society it retains much of its original character, encouraging young practitioners to learn from more experienced ones, and appreciating the sharing of challenges as much as successes.

21st International Reid Bioanalytical Forum

Lecture Programme

The conference has once again attracted a number of world renowned speakers from academia, pharma, CROs and industry regulators on topical subjects in bioanalysis. The conference also prides itself on providing emerging bioanalytical professionals the opportunity to present their solutions to complex bioanalytical problems.

From amongst the program, notable talks include:

Prof Zoltan Takats (Imperial College, London)

Perfecting your image – mass spectrometry and data processing for tissue analysis

Prof Jennifer Laurence (University of Kansas, USA)

Characterization of the Metal Abstraction Peptide (MAP) and Inline claMP Tag Protein-Metal Conjugates

Dr Norman Smith (King’s College, London)

Modern High Performance SFC-Opportunities for Polar Compounds

Dr Mark Bayliss (University of Liverpool, UK)

Bioanalytical challenges arising from experimental investigations into the mechanisms of idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury

Dr David Jones (MHRA)

Current perspectives in regulated bioanalysis

Dr Philip Timmerman (Janssen R&D, representing the European Bioanalysis Forum)

Refining tiered approach best practices for early development: recommendations from the EBF

The conference program will cover topics in the following areas:

·  “Advances in Bioanalytical Technology”

·  “Macromolecular Drug Bioanalysis”

·  “Advances in Drug Discovery”

·  “Regulatory Aspects”

·  “Case Studies”

Celebration Conference Debate

In celebration of the 21st BioForum we propose to hold a conference debate of up to 90 minutes duration in the form of questions and answers to an invited panel. The title of the debate will be – “The current skills gaps in analytical sciences are failing industry” – focusing on bioanalytical sciences and the potential impact on the pharmaceutical industry.

The panel, representing industry, academia and other important stakeholders, will be asked to give their views and insights on the topic. Attendees at the symposium may post questions in advance as well as during an open discussion, if time allows. Arranged in two halves, the second half of the debate will focus on the future of the analytical industry and how we develop the discipline of bioanalysis moving forward.

Poster Exhibition

If you would like to offer a poster, please contact John Smeraglia by email with a title for consideration by the scientific committee (). A number of these posters will be selected for an additional short 5 minute podium presentation; a great opportunity to present your work.

Student Bursaries

Student supervisors are invited to apply for bursaries (including free attendance and agreed travel expenses for both UK and non-UK residents) on behalf of PhD students carrying out research in bioanalysis or a relevant analytical discipline. The student will be expected to submit a poster for consideration (before the end of August) on their work. For more information or to submit a poster, e-mail ().

21st International Reid Bioanalytical Forum
