Sweeper Application

Job Description:

The job of a sweeper for the 2018 Figure Skating Championships is to collect stuffed animals and other gifts thrown on the ice surface after each of the performances.

Requirements for applicants:

1.  Opportunities for sweepers will be open to both boys and girls.

2.  All sweepers must have their own skates.

3.  Must have passed Preliminary Moves in the Field test on or before July 31, 2017.

4.  Must be 8 years of age on or before July 31, 2017.

5.  Must be no older than 14 years of age on or before July 31, 2017.

6.  Must be a continuous member of one of the CCIA member clubs since July 1, 2016.

7.  Must be available ANYTIME from December 27 – January 7, 2018 and follow a general code of conduct.

8.  Each prospective Sweeper must attend ONE of the tryout sessions to be considered. There will be 3 tryout sessions: Oakland Ice Center, Solar 4 America Ice San Jose, and Solar 4 America Ice Fremont

9.  There will also be 1-2 mandatory rehearsals before the start of the Championships (date and times TBD)

10.  Missing rehearsals will result in disqualification.

11.  During the U. S. Championships, selected sweepers will not be allowed a chaperone or parent to accompany them on the Arena floor or backstage area.

12.  All sweepers will be required to check-in at a designated arena area.

13.  Sweepers, friends, and family members will not be given tickets.

14.  If selected, sweepers may purchase tickets through a designated arena contact.

15.  Final schedules for sweepers will be determined approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the Championships.

16.  Costume fees will run approximately $200.00 per costume (to be paid by the sweeper).

17.  Once selected a 50% deposit will be required. The remainder will be due approximately 30 days later.

18.  Once costume has been ordered there will be no refunds.

19.  Each sweeper and parent/guardian will be required to sign a release form.

Selection Process

·  Sweepers will be screened for eligibility based on skill demonstrated at the try-out sessions.

·  Applicants meeting the screening criteria at the try-out sessions will then be sorted according to CCIA member club.

·  Sweepers will then be selected by a lottery drawing. Three (3) skaters will be drawn from each Full member club (if less than 3 eligible skaters exist for any club, unused slots will be added to the 6 pooled eligibility slots as set forth below). Once the 3 (or fewer) skaters from each club have been drawn, the remaining eligible skaters will then be pooled and additional six (6) (or more) skaters will be drawn for a total of 36 sweepers.

·  A list of the thirty six (36) sweepers will be distributed to all the CCIA member clubs. Each skater selected as a sweeper or alternate will be notified in writing.
