2018 FALL YOUTH 7on7 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
We are excited to announce that in addition to the tackle football options provided in the past, we are launching a new 7on7 football option for 1st through 8th graders. This program will provide the area with an alternative, limited-contact way to learn and experience the great game of football! Below are some additional details relating to the program:
Equipment and Organization:
Games to be held in Naperville on Saturdays between Labor Day and Halloween
Teams may practice no more than two nights a week
“Soft-Cap” or “Soft-Shell” head gear and mouth guards required (to be purchased by the participants)
Uniform shirts, footballs and practice gear to be provided by the league
Leg pads or knee pads are allowed, but not required
Teams will consist of 10-15 players (contiguous grade levels may be combined into one Division)
Players may sign up as a team or individually
We will provide training for any interested coaches, so no experience is required!
General Rules:
Games will consist of two 25-minute running clock halves, and a 5 minute halftime
Games will be played on half fields (+40 yard line to corresponding end zone)
One coach will be allowed on the field with each team to help organize the players
The offense will consist of 7 players:a center, a QB, and 5 eligible runners/receivers
The offense may run or pass (only the center is ineligible) in grades 1-2 and 3-4 but in grades 5-6 and 7-8 there is no running/only forward passes.
Any IHSA formation is allowed (simply remove the guards and tackles)
The QB has 5 seconds to throw a forward pass, run, or pitch/hand-off to a back
Only open hand or “stalk” blocking allowed
The defense will consist of 7 players, and may be
No blitzing or rushing the QB (see the 5 second rule above)
Defenders may cross the line of scrimmage if the ball is pitched or handed off to a back
A player is down upon a one hand touch
Scoring: TD=6; PAT=1 or 2; Interception=3 (for the defense); Turnover on Downs = 2 (for the defense)
