By Phone

o Select your language (#1 for English)
o Enter the primary tax payer's (listed first on the return) Social Security number
o Enter #1 for correct
o Enter your house # as it was reported on your tax return, numbers only
o After a lengthy automated explanation, select #2 for tax return transcript.Selecting #1 results in ordering the tax account transcript, which is not a return we can accept.
· Make sure you order the “IRS tax return transcript” and not the “IRS tax account transcript.”
· It takes up to two weeks for IRS income information to be available for electronic IRS tax return filers, and up to eight weeks for paper tax return filers.
· If the parents are married, and separate 2016 tax returns were filed, 2016 IRS tax return transcripts must be submitted for each parent.
Verification of Non-Filing
If the parent(s) did not and are not required to file a 2016 income tax return with the IRS, the parent(s) must provide a 2016 IRS Verification of Non-Filing Letter regardless of amount earned, even if the amount earned in 2016 was $0.
To request a Verification of Non-Filing Letter, the parent(s) will need to submit Form 4506-T to the IRS. This form can be found on our website by following these steps:
· Go to https://www.kettering.edu
· Under Admissions, select Undergraduate
· Select Affordability
· Under Money Matters, select Financial Aid Forms (on right side of the screen)
· Select the IRS Form 4506-T for Verification of Non-Filing Letter
Submit the completed form to the IRS using the contact information provided on the form.
Federal law restricts the way in which documents are submitted to the Financial Aid Office. Verification forms and tax transcripts must be submitted by fax, by postal mail or in person. Attached documents to an email are no longer accepted to protect the privacy of student information.
