Saturday 24th February 2018. Meet at 10.30 am / Castell Aberlleiniog – Anglesey. Meeting leader: Catharine Moss
Castell Aberlleiniog is the ruins of a motte and bailey fortress built on a small, steep hill near the village of Llangoed on the Isle of Anglesey. It was built between 1080 and 1099 by Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester. It was little visited until Mentor Mon instigated a program of restoration (circa 2008), which included creation of 2km of footpaths and walkways and planting of 1000s of trees. Habitats on site include wet woodland (willow), a stream (much eroded by recent flooding), woodland and limestone grassland. / There is ample parking in the coastal car park atSH620791.

Meet at 10.30 am / Crafnant area – Near Trefriw, Conwy. Meeting leaders: Susan Andrew and Philippa Thompson.
Meet at the Forestry Commission car park, quarter of a mile below Crafnant lake (SH756 618). Head up the steep hill opposite the Fairy Falls pub in Trefriw. The car park is about two miles up a single track road. Do not panic when you reach road narrows sign. Car park is about 100 yards further on and is well signed!! No phone signal once you leave the village of Trefriw. / Forestry Commission car park SH756618

Meet at 10.30 am / Indoor meeting – Pensychnant Conservation Centre. Meeting leader: Lucia Ruffino
A chance practice identifying byrophytes using the microscope. We will identify specimens from the previous two meetings. Bring your microscope and a copy of Smith’s ‘The Moss Flora of Britain and Ireland’ or Watson’s ‘British Mosses and Liverworts’ (if you have them).
