2017 President’s Awards Nomination Process

In its centennial year, SAIT is proudto recognize and celebratepartnerships, volunteerism and student leadership through its annualPresident’s Awards.

These prestigious awards are presented at the prestigious President’s Dinner in the following categories:

  • President’s Partnership Award (businesses, corporations, foundations, associations)
  • President’s Cornerstone Award (individual)
  • President’s Student Leadership Award (SAIT students and/or student groups)

The 2017 President’s Dinner is being held on Thursday, March 9.

Guidelines and Criteria for Nomination

PRESIDENT’S PARTNERSHIP AWARD

As SAIT begins its second century, our future is brimming with opportunity and promise. Our students are poised to be the next generation of innovators who will push the boundaries of conventional wisdom.SAIT’s strategic partners are essential to making that happen. The President’s Partnership Award recognizes businesses, corporations, foundations or associations that have shown long-term commitment to SAIT, its vision and to the Calgary community.Submissions for this awardshould include examples of the following criteria:

  1. Strategic alliance with SAIT resulting in initiatives that promote the advancement of applied education, demonstrate innovation and/or support student success
  2. Exemplary leadership and achievements in business and the community

PRESIDENT’S CORNERSTONE AWARD

The President’s Cornerstone Award is bestowed upon anindividual who has made a significant impact to SAIT and the community. He or she has a deep rooted sense of pride in SAIT’s mission and has acted on it by personally making difference in applied education and/or the community at large.Submissions for this award should include examples of the following criteria:

  1. Long-term supporter and advocate of SAIT
  2. Developed a strong partnership with the community by giving personal time and expertise
  3. Demonstrated transformational contribution that changed or impacted applied education

This award is only open to individuals. SAIT faculty and staff are ineligible.

PRESIDENT’S STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

SAIT is made up of shapers, makers and originals. You can hear it in our hallways, see it in our class rooms and even taste it at our Marketplace. Our students graduate being “career ready” – we expect a lot of them and covet those who help their classmates excel. The President’s Student Leadership Award recognizes astudent or student group who has demonstrated innovation and initiative in creatingopportunities/advancements for SAIT, fellow students, industry and the community. Submissions for this award could include examples of the following:

  • Meaningful collaboration and/or connection with industry
  • Projects to improve campus life for students
  • Projects, activities or volunteer efforts that strengthen SAIT’s reputation in the community

This award is open to current students, student groups, and the previous years’ (2015/2016) graduates.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Call for nominations: WednesdayJanuary 18, 2017

Nomination forms are submitted by email to Susan Mainella (), Associate DirectorAlumni and Development byMonday, February 6, 2017.

ELIGIBILITYrequirements

SAIT does not preclude the nomination of individuals or corporations who have been awarded other SAIT honours such as the Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Young Alumni Award or recipients of an Honorary Degree. Posthumous nominations are eligible.

Current members of the SAIT Board of Governors, employeesand sitting government officials are not eligible for the awards.

Selection Process

  1. Nominations open – January 18, 2017
  2. Nominations close – February 6, 2017
  3. Selection
  4. February 7-All eligible nominations will be reviewed by the selection committee assembled by the president’s office.
  5. February 7- Recommendations will be brought forward to President Ross for selection.
  6. Week of February 13- Calls to selected award winners to confirm acceptance.

Condition of acceptance is that representatives are present at the dinneron March 9, 2017.

NOTIFICATION TO AWARD RECIPIENTS

Dr. Rosswill contact the award recipients by phone to acknowledge receipt of the award and confirm their acceptance and attendance. A follow up letter from the president’s office is also sent to confirm their acceptance. An Alumni & Development staff member will be assigned as liaison for award winners.

The names of the recipients are kept strictly confidential until the official announcement at the dinner.
