2017 Jerald Bridgman Educational Funds Available

Slow Food Pikes Peak is excited to have established an education fund in the name of one of our chapter’s founders, Jerald Bridgman. This fund is intended to support educational initiatives to encourage public awareness of food traditions, stewardship of the environment, and responsible care, harvesting, and consumption of plants and animals in the Pikes Peak region while meeting the Slow Food mission of “Good, clean, fair food for all”.. Residents of the Pikes Peak Region (Douglas, El Paso, Fremont, Pueblo, Teller counties) are encouraged to apply for 2017 grants.

The objectives for our fund are to:

- Maximize positive impact on the Pikes Peak food community

- Inject seed money where it can be multiplied from other sources

- Encourage education for teachers consistent with the Slow Food mission

- Enable a broad range of initiatives from pre-school to adult education

Criteria to be used for evaluating the submissions are:

- Education focus

- Feasibility/Practicality

- Alignment with the Slow Food mission

- Expected impact on the regional food community

- Long-term sustainability of the effort

- Collaboration within the regional food community

It is expected that recipients will provide a final report to our membership of the results of their efforts. For example, last year we helped send a young woman to the international Slow Food Event, Terra Madre, in Italy. Upon returning, she was responsible for giving a public presentation about her trip.

To apply simply create your proposal (see for proposal form and submission details) and submit it to the Slow Food Pikes Peak chapter for review before March 31, 2017. Proposals may be for any amount up to $1000. Awards will be announced by June 1, 2017.
