2017 COLE COUGAR BASEBALL
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

The following are guidelines and procedures set up to assure players and parents have a clear understanding of the direction in which we will conduct our baseball program. We will use the game of baseball as our vehicle to instill the qualities for our players to become successful in the classroom, life, and on the field.

ACADEMICS: All student-athletes must maintain a minimum of a 70 average in all non-AP/Pre AP classes to maintain their eligibility to participate in athlete contests. This is a state law governed by the UIL. Each athlete will also be required to hand in a weekly grade check to assist with monitoring of their academic progress and behavior. If an athlete is failing for two consecutive UIL 3 week grading period marks during the season, then that student will be removed from team. A player, who was removed from the team due to academic ineligibility the previous season, will need to be eligible at the start of the season to be permitted to come out.

ATTENDANCE: All players are expected to attend all scheduled practices and games. If a player must miss due to a conflict with a UIL event, they are required to let a coach know PRIOR to missing and that absence will be excused. If for any other reasona player misses a practice or a game, they must make contact with a coach PRIOR to missing or a game suspension will be issued. Any practice missed, for non-UIL reasons, will also need to be made up with conditioning. No player can play until conditioning missed is made up. Players late to practice will also need to make up time missed with conditioning. A player who misses any combination of three practices/games without contacting a coach prior or without it being excused, will be removed from the team. Three unexcused tardies will equal one unexcused absence.

Missed Practice: 8 timed Laps around entire field plus any conditioning done in the practice missed.(20 minutes)

Late to Practice: 6 timed Poles plus any conditioning missed in practice. (5 minutes)

TRAVEL, DRESS, AND GROOMING: Players are required to follow all FSHISD transportation and Cole athletic rules and policies. They are also expected to only wear issued equipment and attire while involved in all team related activities (this includes traveling, practicing and before and after games). Players are required to wear a baseball cap (worn forward at all times) during practice and keep up with all issued attire. Players not in full uniform, during games, will not play and players wearing non-issued attire during practice will run 2 poles per item. Repeated dress code violators will be addressed using the behavior 3 step policy below. Players are expected to travel to and from contests with their team, unless specific arrangements have been made with the parent of the athlete and the coaches.

BEHAVIOR: Players are expected to follow the student code of conduct and athletic policies set forth by FSHISD and the Athletic Department. Disrespect towards coaches, teammates, umpires, fans, faculty, or opponents will not be tolerated. Disciplinary actions will result for any behavior or action deemed inappropriate or unacceptable during an athletic event, practice, or on school property. Players are expected to never throw a bat or a helmet, or any other piece of equipment, never talk to the opponent team or umpires, never leave the dugout area if an altercation occurs, hustle on and off the field, pick each other up, and play hard and compete with class. Players will make no outside contact with any person during games and practices. Disciplinary procedures will be addressed in the following matter:

STEP 1: Verbal reprimand, with possible extra conditioning, game suspension or removal from team pending type of behavior exhibited.

STEP 2: Verbal reprimand and parent conference, with extra conditioning, and possible game suspension or removal from team pending type of behavior exhibited.

STEP 3: Removal from team.

EQUIPMENT: All players are required to supply their own spikes/cleats and gloves. Only certified equipment will be allowed to be used in competition (example: bats much carry BBCOR certification to be used in competition). Players are expected to care forall equipment issued during the season and for it to be returned upon the completion of the season. Players are also expected to help transport equipmentto and from practice and games as well as help maintain our home field after all practices and games.
