TO HONOR AND CELEBRATE MRS. EMMA LEE WALTERS GRUBER ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETIETH BIRTHDAY ON JULY 19, 2018, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED HAPPINESS FOR YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of South Carolina deem it fitting and proper to pause in their deliberations to celebrate with Mrs. Emma Lee Walters Gruber on her milestone birthday on July 19, 2018; and

Whereas, born in St. George on July 19, 1928, to Frank Earnest “Doc” Walters and Corrie Lee Connelly Walters, Emma Lee was one of five children, including two brothers, Joseph Walters and John Earl Walters, and two sisters, Lucille Walters Fralix and Elsie Rae Walters McAlhaney. She graduated from St. George High School in 1945; and

Whereas, on March 29, 1945, she married the love of her life, Owen Clement “Jack” Gruber. They spent their lives together farming and raising their five children, Clement Bradley, Patricia Lee Mizzell Mims, Kirkland Allen, Richard Gregory, and Deborah Jean Bair. Sadly they lost their son Bradley in the Vietnam War on March 8, 1968; and

Whereas, their children blessed them with sixteen loving grandchildren and twentyfive beautiful greatgrandchildren; and

Whereas, Emma Lee has always enjoyed working in her yard and sidebyside with her husband on the farm. She also has found much joy in cooking and baking for her large, loving family; and

Whereas, after all of their children were married, Emma Lee worked at their family business, St. George Farm Equipment, until it closed. She then worked as hostess and food and beverage director at the Holiday Inn; and

Whereas, she has been an active member of St. Matthews Baptist Church since 1948, where she has worked on most of the committees at the church; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the Palmetto State are proud to celebrate this momentous occasion with Mrs. Gruber and wish her many more years of joy with her family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
