A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE RIVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM ON A SUPERLATIVE SEASON AND TO SALUTE THESE ATHLETES AND THEIR COACHES ON WINNING THE 2017 CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the River Bluff High School wrestling team grabbed the 2017 Class AAAAA State Championship title on Saturday, February 11, 2017, downing Rock Hill 3130; and
Whereas, with jubilant Gator fans cheering them on, the River Bluff grapplers rolled through the tournament and pinned down the 2017 title win. As the Gators accepted their trophy, supporters began making plans to watch their team do it again next year; and
Whereas, over a successful season, the River Bluff team grew increasingly more aware of how to put their talents to use and how to forge winning strategies implemented with marked determination. They put their agility, strength, and perseverance to the test in the title match and captured their first state crown in school history; and
Whereas, such an impressive performance is not achieved by accident. Head Coach Evan Moxie masterfully molded his team into championship form, enabling the Gators to hoist the title trophy after a wellwon victory, which was celebrated by several team seniors and Coach Moxie in an appearance on local television; and
Whereas, making a sweet victory even sweeter, River Bluff racked up yet more grappling honors. Ben Emery won the 145pound state championship, taking home the firstever individual state title in River Bluff history. Carlos Ortega took fourth place in the 152pound division, and Fabian Leon finished in second place in the heavyweight division. In addition, Carlos Ortega and Fabian Leon were tapped for the North/South wrestling tournament; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing the young athletes of the River Bluff High School wrestling team and anticipate with interest learning of their continued praiseworthy achievements. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the members of the River Bluff High School wrestling team on a superlative season and salute these athletes and their coaches on winning the 2017 Class AAAAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to River Bluff’s principal, Dr. Luke Clamp, and Head Coach Evan Moxie.
