- Introduction
In order to recognize the commitment and contribution of youth volunteers towards society, the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service (the Steering Committee) of the Social Welfare Department organizes the 2017-18Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers Scheme (the Scheme)to select 20 outstanding youth volunteers to participatein the promotion of Volunteer Movementin Hong Kong and exchange their volunteer experiences with people outside Hong Kong.
- Objectives
2.1 To commendthe youth for their contribution and commitment onvolunteering;
2.2 To widen the visionofthe outstanding youth volunteers and expand their network;and
2.3 To encourage young people to be ambassadors in the promotion of volunteering.
- Targets Candidates
Youth volunteers aged between 16 and 24, with right of abode in Hong Kong, who are devoted to serve the communityand contribute to the promotion of volunteering. Successful applicants are required to assist the organizer to promote volunteering inthe subsequent two years. Applicants will be divided into two groups according to their age and a total of 20 youth volunteers will be selected. The selected youth volunteers will become the candidates of the Scheme to receive training. Those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.
- Rules and Conditions
4.1 / Applicants will be grouped according to their age (as at deadline of application). Applicants aged 16-19 are under Group 1 and aged 20-24 are under Group 2.
4.2 / Applicants should possess extensive experience in volunteer service, with no less than three years of volunteer experience and a total of 200 service hours in the past 5 years.
4.3 / Applicants should be able to communicate in Cantonese, Putonghua and English.
4.4 / Applicants should obtain recommendation from their service organizations, schools or institutions. The referee should certify the applicant’s volunteer service record by completing the reference section in the application form.
4.5 / Applicants should download the application form from Volunteer Movement Website at and complete all items in the form and send the completed form with one extra copy to the Central Office for Volunteer Service.
4.6 / Copies of relevant documents/certificates/awards are not required to be submitted with the application form. Applicants should submit the true copy and provide photocopy of all documents mentioned in the application form after they are selected as the candidates of the Scheme. The candidateswill be disqualified ifthe reported information and submitted documents are found to have discrepancy.
4.7 / Deadline for application: 17May2017 (Wednesday).
4.8 / Date of interview:
1st round : 24 June 2017(Saturday) 9a.m. –6p.m.
Final round : 8 July 2017 (Saturday) 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The interview will be conducted in groups. Different from previous years, the Final Round Interview will be conducted throughdifferent mode of activities in a day camp to enable applicants to enhance their self-awareness, better understand their competencies and exchange experiences and insights in volunteer services. Applicantsshould reserve the above whole day for interviews. Should anyapplicant fails to attend the interview scheduled by the organizer, he/she will be regarded as self-withdrawal.
4.9 / The organizer will contact the applicants through telephone and email. Applicants who are invited for interview will be notified in writing one week before the date of interviewbyemail and post. Applicants should provide valid e-mail and correspondence address.
5 Selection
5.1 / Interview will be conducted by the adjudication panel to select 20 youth volunteers with outstanding performance in volunteer service.5.2 / Organizer will give special consideration to those applicants who have special life experienceor background anddemonstrate positive change after joining volunteering.
5.3 / Adjudication panelwill be composed of members from Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Services, lecturers, principals,experienced social workers and renownedpersons.
5.4 / Selected youth volunteers will become the candidates of the Scheme.They need to receive training from August 2017onwards and attend the exchange tour to be arranged by the organizer in December 2017. Only those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded the certificate and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.
- Remarks
6.1 / Selectedyouth volunteersshould observe the rules and regulationsspecifiedby the organizer and promise to attend all training, including the overnight camp held on18-20 August 2017. Those selected youth volunteers whofail to complete the training or whoseperformance during the training period is less than satisfactory, may not be arranged to join the exchange tour in December 2017. The selected youth volunteers are required to submit a report on the training and exchange tour one month after the tripandreportto the organizer as required.
6.2 / The selectedyouth volunteers should complete all the training and attend the exchange tour. Only those who have satisfactory overall performance will be awarded the certificate and become the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers.
6.3 / The selectedyouth volunteers are required to assist the organizer to promote volunteering inthe subsequent two years.
6.4 / After being awarded as the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteer, he/shewill be invited to join as a member of the Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteers' Association (the Association) and assist to the Association to promote volunteering
6.5 / The organizer reserves the right on selection of applicants, and the right to amend any of the rules and regulationsof the Scheme without prior notification.
6.6 / The dates indicated in this document may be subject to changes. For any changes, the organizer will inform applicants separately.
6.7 / The organizer reserves the right to alter the arrangements for the Scheme without prior notification.
6.8 / The personal data provided bythe applicants will be used for processing of the application of this Scheme only. Applicants have the right of access and correction with respect to personal data as provided in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Applicants’ rights of access include the rights to obtain copies of their personal data provided. The personal data that provided would be used for verification and contact between applicants and the Social Welfare Department only. The information will be destroyed after six months of result announcement.
6.9 / The English version is for reference only. In case of any discrepancy, please refer to the Chinese version for final interpretation.
