2016 Summer Finance and Accounting Internship

The Houston Hispanic Forum is offering an extraordinary learning opportunity for a select individual. The internship is a full-time opportunity for 12 weeks.

The Finance and Accounting Intern will have the opportunity to learn and work on the finance essentials of a non-profit organization. This is a unique position that will enable the selected candidate to understand the day-to-day operations of a highly successful, advocacy nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities/Potential Projects

Specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the candidate’s skills, career goals, and interests.

The Houston Hispanic Forum expects that this internship will be used as a career development tool for the selected candidate.

We are seeking a dedicated and focused candidate that possesses excellent analytical, research and organizational abilities to assist in various accounting and financial related projects.

Projects may include

Preparing and analyzing financial reports for the Board of Directors and making recommendations on improved reporting formats.

Assessing existing accounting software capabilities in light of the organization’s future growth.

Researching existing accounting software for non-profit organizations.

Collaborating on grant budget proposals in coordination with development activities.

Assessing existing organizational processes and documenting institutional policies & procedures.

Assisting in grant report preparations.

Preferred qualifications

Skilled in QuickBooks is a plus.

Ability to work independently/as a self-starter, as well as a team member.

Strong written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external audiences.

Strong analytical skills and confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, confidential information.

A strong work ethic and a good sense of humor are considered a plus.

A commitment to the advancement of the Hispanic community.

A strong desire to learn about non-profit management and finance.

Preference will be given to a senior in college, graduate student, or recent college graduate with a degree in business administration, accounting or finance.

The preferred candidate will be positive, a self-starter, committed to learning and doing a good job, enthusiastic, detail oriented, and driven by a passion for the success of the Hispanic community. The F&A Intern will work closely with the Executive Director.

The Houston Hispanic Forum is a 30-year old strong nonprofit with a very active Board. HHF is the founder of the popular annual Career and Education Day event held at the George R. Brown Convention Center. HHF’s mission is to empower and inspire the success of the Hispanic community so that all Hispanics will possess the knowledge and tools to be successful.
