2016 CHASKA TRACK & FIELD

ELIGIBILITY

Online registration must be completed by FRIDAY MARCH 11th .

Questions can be answered in the Activities Office.

Fees ($235.00, checks payable to: Chaska High School)

Fee is refundable through the second (2nd) week of practice. After that no refunds will be issued

Clearance Cards – Must be turned in to coaches on or before March 14th. No one will be allowed to practice without a card.

Middle School athletes who are interested in participating in Chaska Track and Field are allowed to do so, but only after consulting with and gaining prior approval from either the Girls Head Coach (Kyle Zygarlicke) or the Boys Head Coach (Nate Foss). It is important to realize that this is a High School Level Program and as such middle school student athletes will be held to the same standards and expectations as their high school counterparts. If a parent is unsure if the high school program is the correct fit for their son or daughter, they are encouraged to contact Paul Pearson (Youth Programs Specialist, Community Education for Eastern Carver County Schools) at 952-556-7244 or via email: to enroll their child in the middle school Track & Field program.

SCHEDULE

Practice – begins at 3:30 with a team meeting. Be ready to participate!

Meets – schedules will be posted with bus / excused times.

FOOTWEAR

Good Training Shoes!! These are a must.

Competition Shoes (spikes, throwing, jumping); we would like to have all runners in spikes.

The best store for shoes and clothing:

TC Running Co. (6405 City West Parkway, Eden Prairie) (Hwy. 62 and Shady Oak Rd.)

*Discounts for mentioning you are a member of Chaska High School Track and Field!!

CLOTHING

Be prepared for both indoor and outdoor activities every day beginning March 14th. Outdoor: Hats,

gloves, long pants, sweatshirts, jackets etc. Indoor: Shorts/pants, t-shirt, shoes, etc.

We also encourage ALL athletes to bring a watch everyday for practice and meets.

ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS (ATTITUDE)

*Be respectful of team members, coaches, parents, and opposing team members.

*Communicate with coaches regarding absences, injuries, conflicts, etc.

*Follow the MSHSL and School Rules on Chemical use. Zero Tolerance!

*Be at all practices. Complete all workouts as assigned. Give 100% effort.

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the Gift.” ~ Steve Prefontaine

*ALWAYS thank the host school coaches and officials after a competition. Many officials

volunteer their time for the love of track and field.

ATTENDANCE

Practice is the key to improvement, so attendance is mandatory.

Any absence for which the coach is not notified in advance is considered an unexcused absence.

- Do not send a message through a friend.

Boys: Girls:

On the first unexcused absence, the coach will give the athlete a verbal warning.

On the second unexcused absence, the athlete will miss the next meet.

In the event of a third unexcused absence, additional consequences will occur.

Absence the day before a meet (without talking with a coach first) means NO competition;

however, you must attend the meet and help in any way possible.

Please respect that Track & Field is in season and all other sports are technically out of season.

- Therefore, inform your out of season coach of your commitment to Chaska Track & Field.

BUS TIMES / EARLY RELEASE

Bus times will be posted no later than the day before a competition and the bus wheels will make their first revolution at the posted time. If an early release is necessary, that time will be posted the day before a competition and coaches will email the excused list to all teachers. An early release will be no more than ten to fifteen minutes before bus time and it is the student athlete’s responsibility to have their equipment ready at the time the bus leaves.

UNIFORMS

Each athlete will be issued a uniform consisting of racing shorts and singlet top. It is your responsibility to care for these items for the season and turn them in at the conclusion of YOUR season. A fine of $75 will be assessed for uniforms not returned by June 2nd*. *State participants turn in uniforms/warm up jacket after the State Meet.

You have the option to purchase a warm-up consisting of a black pant and a black and white jacket. They may be purchased through Capture Athletics and they would include your initials/name for identification. If you should not want to buy a warm up, we can issue you a team jacket during uniform check-out.

COMPETITIONS

To have a successful competition day you must:

*have your uniform, warm up clothes (BLACK pants & Chaska Warm up Jacket - regardless of temperature)

*Training shoes and Competition shoes

*bring plain water (no pop)

*help carry supplies to and from the bus (captains / coaches will assign jobs)

*warm up properly before each event to enhance performance & prevent injury

*cool down after your competition

*encourage teammates in all of their events (avoid sitting around the camp for long periods of time; get out and cheer)

*stay for the entire competition

Other things to note for Meet Days:

*There is no more jewelry rule! However, if an official or a coach thinks your jewelry could cause harm to you, an opponent, or
damage equipment you will be asked to remove it. Refusal to remove it will result in disqualification. Watches are okay
so long as they are not GPS.

*No electronics (phones or iPods) inside the track fence or competition area.

*All undergarments are SOLID BLACK. Boys – No boxer shorts.

*Spikes must be ¼” pyramids.

*Spike kit, med kit, and baton bag stay at the team camp area.

*Leadoff runners in relays are responsible for getting the baton before racing and anchor runners must return the baton to the bag.
Never leave it on the ground.

*Please stay for the entire competition. If you must leave, it has to be with YOUR parent(s) only.
Please have a parent/guardian talk to a coach to notify them you are leaving.

*Pay close attention to announcements and report to your event on time.

*Thank meet workers for the jobs they did and thank the coach of the host school for allowing us to be a part of their meet.
