Other items to note:

Post Game - You have 10 minutes from time game ends to when lights will go off…

1. Clear out of the dugouts. – get equipment and trash put away.

2. Rake in Low areas at Mound, Plate and Base areas. If time, water down Rubber area and Plate.

3. If time meet with your team – the lights on walkway will remain on.

The GOAL is to have everyone out of the parks by 10:45 pm or sooner. Please respect the neighbors who are close by and keep the noise down on the way out of the parks.

Umpire Timing Conflicts

On occasion (usually if we have had a number of rainouts) we will get an umpire who has an early game on one field and a late game on another field. Please check with your umpires, before the game starts. If this happens, you must follow the light rules from above. We do not want to penalize the late game. Play Hustle Baseball – on and off.

Communication with Opposition and Umpire

This is the most important part. Make sure you go over these rules before the game starts. No one likes a surprise once the game has started. Let the opposition know how quickly the lights will go off – we don’t want them stuck in a dark dugout because they had a long discussion with their team.

FIELD MAINTENANCE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

PREGAME –

* CONFIRM BASE LENGTHS FOR YOUR AGE/SPORT GROUPS

(At Ponds there are currently base pegs at 60’, 65’ & 70’ on each field)

- If you need to find the proper length – use tape measure and shovel, look for loose soil. Please do not dig holes. It is best to find 1st base (two pegs) then 3rd, then lining up to find 2nd.

* CONFIRM YOUR PITCHING LENGTH

(Try to cover the pitching rubbers in front of your pitcher as best you can to prevent hops)

At Ponds - There can be rubbers at 35’, 40’, 46’ & 52’ - most are dug in and have 4x4 attached.

* Fastpitch – There should be a 8’ circle taken from the front center of pitching rubber

* Please take a rake and smooth out the area the drag couldn’t do – it will generally be about 1’ around the entire infield – Do not rake agriline into the outfield grass – that causes ‘lips’=’hops’

* IF Field chalked and ready to go – You should be set!

*** If Field is powder dry there is access to water up at the Concession area on outside wall nearest Parking lot.

Putting a little water at the plate and mound area or even near bases will cut down on dust and improve traction.

* IF Field is NOT CHALKED

(There should be a chalker, chalk, twine on reel or tape measure in Box) Coach has key.

Be careful opening and dumping chalk into chalker as it can get messy especially if windy.

- To chalk field –

1. Drive stake for twine or have someone hold at rear Point of the plate.

2. Run twine or tape about 3-4 feet into outfield grass –

3. Look to line up the outside edge of either 1st or 3rd base with the outside edge of the outfield. painted foul line. (At 1st base with safety base – the line should be in between orange/white base)

4. With Chalk in Chalker – and lined up about 3’ from plate (give your self room to place batters box) open up the Chalker to desired width –either 2” or 4”. Making sure that the chalk line is running on the INSIDE the twine. This is a FOUL Line – but it is in FAIR TERRITORY. Do one line and then walk the twine over to do the other baseline. PLEASE RETURN CHALKER, CHALK to field box!

* To Chalk Batters Box Ponds – Use 2” chalk width. Use the template for Softball provided in box, for Baseball use the same template for width of box but length should be 6 feet long – with 3 feet measured to front and back from the rear (square) corner of the plate. For baseball the softball template can be used and would be 1’ shorter in the front of plate. Ryan,P7 – use template in storage.

* In between games – if double header just rake edges of lines and around bases, mound, plate areas as needed. Do not restripe field.

- if new teams coming on follow same instructions in just raking – but you can restripe if needed or if there is time.

POST GAME –

* 1. Clean out dugout area

2. Parents pick up around stands and place trash in garbage cans

3. Rake in holes or low areas around Bases, Mound and PLATE.

4. If there is access to water – you can lightly water and step on those low areas to compact them. Water is available up at Main concession area on the outside wall facing the parking lot – there you will find a faucet and short hose.

TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR FIELDS & PARKS !!! - THANK YOU!!!
