2016-2017 The Carol Bond Fund Community College Scholarship
The North Carolina American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA) is a volunteer association dedicated to providing water and wastewater education, training, and service in an effort to protect public health and the environment.
The Carol Bond Fund is a memorial scholarship fund, which was created by the NC AWWA-WEA in cooperation with employees of the City of Raleigh, NC. This scholarship fund commemorates the late Carol Bond and her life-long devotion to environmental education. Carol was one of the first certified Environmental Educators in the state of North Carolina. Carol also served on many NC AWWA-WEA committees including the Public Education Committee. This fund supporting this scholarship is channeled toward scholarships and grants that encourage interest in environmental education.
Eligibility
· Student must be pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Education at a community college in North Carolina during the 2016-2017 academic year.
· Student must have maintained a GPA of greater than 2.75.
· Student must be a US citizen.
· Student must not be related to scholarship sponsors nor employed by such sponsors and not an employee of nor related to officer or director of NC AWWA-WEA, nor to any member of the Endowment Committee.
· Preference will be given to students who are members of a student chapter of NC AWWA-WEA.
Value
· One $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded.
· A student who is awarded a scholarship is eligible to apply each year for any scholarship funded by The Carol Bond Fund and designated for community colleges students.
· Award recipient will qualify for free registration for the Annual NC AWWA-WEA Conference each year in which he/she is awarded scholarship.
How to Apply
In ONE envelope, applicants must submit:
· A completed application form. (Available at http://www.ncsafewater.org/?page=Scholarships)
· Recommendations from at least two college instructors. These should be in sealed envelopes signed by the instructors
· Essay discussing reasons for studying in a curriculum with a focus on water environment and what contributions the applicant hopes to make that will improve the water environment. (Maximum 800 words)
· Official college transcript with community college seal
· Academic Advisor Certification (Form is available at http://www.ncsafewater.org/?page=Scholarships)
