2016-2017 MSC Program Annual Summative Report

The faculty of the MSC Program meet annually to (a) review, amend, and approve Program Objectives within the context of data gathered from the previous academic year, and (b) review and approve recommendations for programmatic changes to be instituted in the upcoming year.

The MSC Program has applied for CACREP accreditation. CACREP requires that within core and specialty areas, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are identified. KPIs are capstone assignments which measure teaching and learning.

1)In order to assess the Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice core area, the COUN 728 Ethics and Law in Counselingcourse will be utilized instead of COUN 701Introduction to Counseling. The key performance indicator assignment has changed to an ACA ethics code practice simulation.

2)For the PSYC 709 Advanced Human Development course, the key performance indicator assignment has changed from the exam to the Lifespan Portfolio Paper due to the applicability of course content to each student’s personal human development.

3)The faculty decided to eliminate the PSYC 747 Case Formulation and PSYC 740 Psychopharmacology courses as key performance indicator courses due to noncore faculty teaching these specialized courses.

4)For the COUN 783 and COUN 787 courses, the faculty has decided to implement a self-assessment of wellness which is conducted by each student at the beginning and then again at the end of the courses.

5)The MSC Program is offering more training opportunities for site supervisors, such as the Chi Sigma Iota mixers with site supervisors and a PTSD workshop (Fall 2017) facilitated by licensed professional counselor, Dr. Dudley Chewning for NCE credit.
