GENERAL

Notices explaining the new whip rule will be placed on the notice boards at all tracks in the weeks leading up to the implementation of the rule on the 1 May 2016. Please see Stewards if you have any questions regarding the new rule.

Participants are advised that new rules relating to whip use come into effect on 1 May 2016. To assist drivers understand the new rule Harness Racing Australia have released a video. To see the new rule and the video go to the link below.

Office of Racing Integrity have also made arrangements for the HRA whip video to be shown at race meetings in the lead up to the new rule coming into effect on the 1 May 2016. The video will be played at TPC meetings on a monitor outside the Stewards room and at DHRC and LPC race meetings on the dedicated race replay screens. Following discussions with the Harness Advisory Group participants are advised that it will be a requirement that drivers not cross their reins and use their whip with a freehand in trials from 1 April 2016 to assist drivers in adapting to the new rules. Please ask Stewards if you have any questions about the new whip rules. Copies of the new whip rule have also been posted on notice boards at TPC, LPC and DHRC.

RACE 1 – BENNETT’S PETROLEUM NEW NORFOLK STAKES – 1609 METRES

The all clear in this event was delayed so driver Nicholas Brockman (STILL TIME LIZZIE) could view the official patrol films in relation to the start. After viewing the patrol film Mr Brockman elected not to lodge a protest and the all clear was subsequently given on the judge’s numbers.

STILL TIME LIZZIE was checked shortly after the start when HARSHALI hung in momentarily, making contact to this filly’s off front leg resulting in STILL TIME LIZZIE galloping for a distance.

TRIPLE AITCH FELLA swung sideways at the start then stood flat footed and reared. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been placed on its last chance in the standing start draw.

TRIPLE AITCH FELLA hung in racing around the home turn on the final occasion and subsequently contacted a number of marker pegs.

RACE 2 – TOP OF THE TOWN BAKERY PLATE DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer Rodney Ashwood SHADOW BLUE was a late scratching at 12pm by reason of illness. Connections have been advised that SHADOW BLUE has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days following a veterinary certificate as to the reasons for the scratching being received.

The start of this event was delayed 2 minutes when driver Paul Hill (BLACK CHATTER) dropped his whip in the preliminary warm up.

SHESASTANDOUT raced rough for a short period when racing out of the home straight on the first occasion.

BLACK CHATTER pulled hard throughout the event.

Racing down the back straight on the first occasion CHAMPAGNE KATE hung out and then subsequently broke, checking MARNU THE BEAST who galloped for a short distance. Connections have been advised that CHAMPAGNE KATE has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

BALDOCK hung in shortly after the start.

SHESASTANDOUT and METROSILK were both held up for clear racing room racing around the home turn.

A post-race swab sample was taken from BE GOOD FRANKLIN, winner of the event.

RACE 3 – LIGHT HARNESS TAS CUP HEAT ONE – 2579 METRES

JANE GRANT, PRETTYBOYTROY and SCRUFFY JAKE all pulled hard throughout the middle stages of the event.

CISKEI galloped out at the start. Connections have been advised that this gelding will continue to be drawn outside the draw in future standing start events.

RACE 4 – TASTECH BUILDING SYSTEMS STAKES – 2090 METRES

Racing down the back straight on the final occasion JOHN BAPTISTE NZ hung in and subsequently contacted a marker peg.

WATCH THIS SPOT NZ broke when racing three wide early in the back straight. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

WATCH THIS SPOT NZ was held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.

WATCH THIS SPOT NZ underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

LE PREMIERE broke under pressure when racing around the home turn. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

IN HOUSE hung in under pressure at approximately the 400 meters and subsequently tired and as a result contacted a number of marker pegs.

IN HOUSE underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

PUSHKIN NZ pulled hard in the score up.

METRO DIGBY was placed back inside the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 5 – SANDI’S FOR HAIR PACE DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES

Stewards approved the change of tactics on ANOTHER METRO when trainer Marc Butler advised that this gelding will be driven further forward due to the inside barrier draw. Stewards made a public announcement to that affect, confirming the change of tactics.

THATSWHATSHESAID hung out in the score up but due to being in position at the start Stewards refrained from taking any action.

ORIGIN BILLY hung in when racing down the back straight on the final occasion and subsequently contacted a number of marker pegs.

ORIGIN BILLY and MY MATE NICK were held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.

RACE 6 – LIGHT HARNESS TAS CUP HEAT TWO – 2579 METRES

The start of this event was delayed 3 minutes due to Albion Park Harness race 2 running behind schedule.

STRANGE CONDUCT galloped out. Connections have been advised that this gelding will continue to be drawn outside the draw in future standing start events.

VANDER JENKINS galloped out. Connections have been advised that this mare will be placed on its last chance in the standing start draw.

RUSTY RED COMET raced rough throughout the middle stages of the event and subsequently tired at approximately the 400 meters.

RUSTY RED COMET underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

LAST GUY STANDING hung out under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race swab sample was taken from GRINABLE NZ, winner of the event.

MONARCO PLAYBOY was out of position at the start. Connections have been advised that this gelding will continue to be drawn outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Stewards inquired into an incident racing around the home turn when Duncan Dornauf (REGAL IDEA) elected to shift wider on the track and as a result Todd Rattray (STRANGE CONDUCT) and Christian Salter (VANDER JENKINS) having to shift wider on the track. After viewing the official replays and evidence off all drivers Stewards were of the opinion that Mr Dornauf shifted wider on the track the same time Mr Rattray elected to shift wider also and as a result Mr Salter who was racing outside STRANGE CONDUCT was momentarily inconvenienced. After assessing the evidence of each driver and viewing the official patrol films Stewards refrained from taking any further action other than to remind Mr Dornauf of his obligations to ensure he is clear when shifting wider on the track over the concluding stages.

RACE 7 – ERIC & IRENE FLEMING STAKES DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES

Racing down the back straight on the final occasion Paul Hill (STONER RAINBOW) successfully jostled John Walters (SUTTER MAN) for a position in the three wide line.

JETCRAFT NZ and MANARCO PLAYBOY were both held up for clear room racing around the home turn and entering the home straight

A post-race swab sample was taken from JETCRAFT NZ, winner of the event.

The all clear in this event was delayed when driver John Walters (SUTTER MAN) asked to view the official photo finish image. After viewing the official photo finish Mr Walters was satisfied and Stewards subsequently gave the all clear on the judge’s numbers.

IDEN MAKING TIME was placed back inside the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 8 – NNPC LIFE MEMBERS STAKES – 2090 METRES

ROCKBANK DANCER (Christian Salter) hung out under pressure over the concluding stages. At the same time KARALTA JAZZMAN (John Walters) hung in under pressure and as a result BERTILS BLISS (Heath Szczpka) was tightened between these two horses for a short distance approaching the winning post.

Stewards intend to inquire into the reasons why NO ISSUE broke racing down the back straight on the final occasion.

Driver Sam Rawnsley (SHEAS DELIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 162(1)(y) in that he failed to adhere to the section time requirements of this event. Mr Rawnsley was fined the sum of $100.

RACE 9 – BRUCE & SHARON ROOKE MEMORIAL DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES

JOHN PRESTON broke in the score up and subsequently hung out in the score up and as a result was not in position at the candy pole. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been placed on its last chance in the mobile barrier draw.

MARAVILLOSO tired at approximately the 400 meters and subsequently hung in under pressure contacting two marker pegs.

Racing at approximately the 700 meters NOTE WORTHY LOMBO hung out for a short distance.

A post-race swab sample was taken from ART OF MY ART, winner of the event.

Driver Adrian Duggan (MARAVILLOSO) was reprimanded under AR 162(1)(i) for failing to come up to the starting gate by the time that the candy pole was reached.

RACE 10 – DERWENT VALLEY COUNCIL STAKES DIVISION THREE – 2090 METRES

CEE CEE SOUND tired in the home straight after receiving the bell to be beaten distanced. CEE CEE SOUND underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Connections have been advised that his horse has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

SAFARI SUNSHINE broke in running. Connections have been advised that this mare has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

TSIMBA RIDGE hung in and subsequently hung out soon after the start.

Driver James Austin (SAFARI SUNSHINE) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 156(3)(b) for his excessive whip action over the concluding stages. Stewards adjourned the matter in relation to penalty.

GENERAL

LPC – Race 8 - 27 March 2016

Driver James Austin (RILEY CYOTE) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 168(1)(a) for careless driving the particulars being that he allowed that horse to shift in whilst adjusting gear resulting in NO ISSUE (Todd Rattray) being contacted and breaking. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Austin’s record under the rule and his guilty plea. Mr Austin was suspended for two race dates. Mr Austin applied for and was granted a 9 day deferment to allow his suspension to commence at midnight on 10 April 2016 and expired on midnight on 15 April 2016. Mr Austin also pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 47A prior to the prescribed 30 minute time without seeking permission and was fined $50.
