2015-2016Clubs and Activities Offered at WHRMS!Rev. 7/31/15

  • Builder’s Club – This is the Middle School version of “Key Club.” It meets after school and gives students opportunities to help others by serving their school and community. Students will engage in organizing the Valentine’s Day dance, community service projects, food drives, Mix-it-Up Day, fundraising and activities to promote school spirit.
  • Chorus Club – This club is offered as an after school activity for students who are interested in further developing their vocal abilities and have a joy of music. See the advisor for additional details!
  • Cognetics – This is an after school club open to all students who enjoy creative problem solving, working “hands on” as a team member, and engaging in the scientific process. Students will engage in logical and analytical games and experiments, while developing strategy-building skills.
  • Computer Club – This is a club for students who enjoy and want to learn more about technology and its many capabilities to enhance our lives!
  • Drama Club – This is a club for students who would like to learn more about theater arts and the enhancement of beginning skills needed to bring forth a quality performance.
  • Forensics – This club meets after school and students practice monologues, scenes and debates. They will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in various local tournaments.
  • Homework Club – This is an after school homework help club open to all students after school hours Tuesday /Wednesday/Thursday and is a great way for students to complete homework while still on school grounds! Assistance is offered to students by our teaching staff, peers, and high school NHS students in the various subject areas. (late buses are available only on Tues./Thurs.)
  • Horizons – This is a program that is available to students who have demonstrated highly refined academic skills and/or exceptional ability in developing original ideas and/or problem solving. There are various options for students in this program to engage in including independent study, conferences, symposiums, etc.
  • International Club – This club is designed for students who have an interest in learning about and sharing knowledge of various cultures in an effort to explore, appreciate and educate others on the positive aspects of diversity, while having fun in the process!
  • Jazz Ensemble – This club is offered to students as an after school activity for students who are interested in further developing their musical interests and abilities. See the advisor for additional details!
  • Kidz Connection – This club is offered to all students who would like to work together joining in for fun with students with special needs. See Ms. Heslin, advisor for all information. This club generally runs once a month on Wednesdays after school, so all students/parents will need to arrange for transportation home.
  • National Junior Honor Society – This is a national organization for qualified students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. Academically qualified students are invited to apply during their 7th grade year and those selected will engage in activities to enhance the school/community during their 8th grade year.
  • Newspaper Club – Meets after school to organize and create a hard copy newspaper. Student reporters write editorials, sports articles, entertainment/trivia, movie and book reviews and engage in creative writing.
  • Peer Leadership – This is a program where selected students participate in the organization and facilitation of various school activities. They assist other students and the school community in many capacities as needed throughout the school year.
  • Peer Mediation – This is a program where selected students learn mediation skills to help seek peaceful solutions to conflicts that arise between students.
  • Ski Club – Students of all ability levels can participate. There are 6 trips on Thursday nights in January/February to Shawnee Mountain, 3:15-9:30 PM. (Students bear all costs for transportation, lifts, lessons and rentals and are required to wear a helmet.)
  • Student Council – This is a leadership organization, which elects members to attend monthly meetings. Officers are selected and participate in the NJ Association of Student Councils. Involved students plan/host school dances and spirit week and engage in fundraising for charity and various service projects.
  • Yearbook Club – Meets after school and students are responsible for the set-up, layout, copy, pictures and sale of the yearbook.
