AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CELEBRATE THE CLARENDON HALL GIRLS SOFTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR THEIR STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM ON CAPTURING THE 2015 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (SCISA) CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Clarendon Hall girls softball team has won the 2015 SCISA Class A state championshipwith an overall record of 185; and
Whereas, along with the state championship, the Lady Saints were the SCISA Region 3 champions with a region record of 111; and
Whereas, after an early season 113 loss to Dorchester Academy, the teamrefocused and played every game as if on a mission, winning key games against Holly Hill and Colleton Prep to claimthe region title; and
Whereas, their goal at the beginning of the season was to win the region and then focus on winning the state tournament; and
Whereas, the girls defeated WW King Academy, Dorchester Academy, and St. John’s Christian by outscoring their opponents 334 to claim the upper state 1A bracket to advance to the best of a three championship series in which they would face Colleton Prep; and
Whereas, losing their first game on the road 43, the Lady Saints refused to lose the series on their home turf in the second game, defeating Colleton Prep 124 to force a game three; and
Whereas, the third and final game would be a state championship that no one will ever forgetwith multiple lead changes, tied scores, and extra innings; and
Whereas, in the top of the eighth inning with runners on first and second, Aubrey Johnson hit a line drive over the center field fence to give the Lady Saints a 1411 lead going into the bottom of the eighth. The Lady Saints would hold onto their lead to claim a 1412 victory and the 2015 state championship title; and
Whereas, Shannon Corbett was named the Region 3 Player of the Year, and she and her teammates Aubrey Johnson, Jordan Carter, and Gracyn Royce all were named to the All Region team and participatedin the NorthSouth All Star game. Gracyn Royce had her jersey retired after having pitched five seasons, winning two state titles, and two state runnerup seasons; and
Whereas, Head Coach Jeffrey Bays, drawing on his own considerable talents and skills, molded his team members into champions and proudly watched his players hoist the title trophy; and
Whereas, the journey to winning the state title required discipline, dedication, and teamwork, qualities that will always serve these young women well both on and off the field. With admiration, the House recognizes and applauds the outstanding work of the Clarendon Hall girls softball team and wishes its members much continued success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
