RACE 1 – MITAVITE PACE DIVISION ONE – 2200 METRES

Stewards queried driver Erin Hollaway as to the performance of ANIMI SUB IGNIS in this event. Miss Hollaway stated that the gelding had tended to over-race in contrast to its most recent performance where it travelled kindly throughout the race before then finishing off. Miss Hollaway further stated that the gelding had had a tendency to race rough around the turns and then failed to respond when asked for an effort both racing off the back straight and then entering the home straight when the removable deafeners where pulled. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed that the gelding had a slower than normal recovery rate. Subsequent to the race meeting trainer J Castles reported that the gelding had recovered well in the days following the race and it is his intention to now step up the gelding’s workload before racing again.

RACE 2 – BOTRA PACE – 2200 METRES

BERRI DAMOUR hung in in the score up.

GOTTALOVEFRIDAYS after working mid race then tired in the home straight. Mr Castles also advised that this gelding had recovered well and would continue its preparation.

TOMEARA hung in on the first turn and then under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 3 – BEVAN LEE’S BUTCHERY PACE – 1680 METRES

FESTIG hung in during the score up and then raced rough into the first turn. The mare then broke racing into the back straight on the final occasion and then again racing off the back straight on the final occasion, checking DEVIL OF TYNE and KON TIKI. FESTIG has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

SHEER IMPACT which was out of position at the start will continue to be placed out of the draw for future mobile start events. The mare was then held up and inconvenienced in the home straight when LASTCHANCETOSMILE broke under pressure.

LASTCHANCETOSMILE after showing gate speed raced on the leaders back and was then held up rounding the home turn. The filly which then broke under pressure in the home straight has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Post-race swab samples were taken from CARD SHARK KIWI the winner of the event.

Driver Keith Toulmin (CARD SHARK KIWI) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 156(4)(c) for loose reining over the concluding stages.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for FOWSANDS (Gareth Rattray) breaking approaching the 500 metres. After taking evidence from drivers Rohan Hadley (OLIVERS MATE) and Gareth Rattray, it was established that OLIVERS MATE shifted to a position in the three wide line and thereafter maintained a straight course which then enabled FOWSANDS to get to a position one off the pegs. The gelding raced greenly when shifting ground and shortly after shifting ground then hung out and contacted the wheel of OLIVERS MATE. Connections have been advised that FOWSANDS has been placed on its last chance to race truly for its racing manners.

RACE 4 – NEIL PITTS PTY LTD STAKES – 2200 METRES

SIGN OF ORO and HOLME ON THE BAYOU jostled passing the 500 metres. At the same time HIGHLY PERSUASIVE commenced to tire and SIGN OF ORO was checked and raced rough as a result.

As a result of SIGN OF ORO being checked ME MATE LES which was trailing that gelding was also inconvenienced.

Approaching the finish line and shortly after the finish line LU WAY LORD was tightened when racing between horses.

Driver Mark Yole (SIGN OF ORO) was reminded of his obligations when attempting to shift ground.

RACE 5 – RILEY O’CONNELL STAKES – 2200 METRES

Prior to the event trainer Ben Yole (ROCKBANK DANCER) advised that it was connections intention for the gelding to be driven with a sit in tonight’s event. Stewards approved the change of tactics and the gelding was driven accordingly.

The start of this event was delayed due to driver Rohan Hadley (STRANGE CONDUCT) dropping his whip in the preliminary which had to be retrieved.

MAJOR CALLUM NZ which galloped out has been placed on its last chance in the draw for future standing start events.

FAITHFUL JET raced rough after the start.

JOHNNART has been placed back in the standing start draw.

WALKY TALKY and RUSTY RED COMET were both held up and unable to obtain clear running in the home straight.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for PHILTRA PHELLA (Tim Yole) contacting the sulky of MAJOR CALLUM NZ (Ricky Duggan) and breaking in the latter part of the home straight. After taking evidence from drivers Tim Yole and Ricky Duggan it was established that Mr Yole had attempted to run when a run was not fully available to him, as a result his drive contacted the sulky wheel of MAJOR CALLUM NZ and broke. Mr Yole pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 168(1) for careless driving and was fined the sum of $100.
