RACE 2 – INCITEC PIVOT C,G & E MAIDEN PLATE DIV 2 – 1400 METRES

Prior to the race Mick Burles trainer of Bloodshot notified that the gelding would race further back today if circumstances permitted. Ismail Toker confirmed the instructions given however stated that after jumping moderately from a wide barrier the gelding commenced to over-race slightly but as there was no early speed he elected to ride forward as not to be quite wide. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered.

For some distance passing the 1000 metres Smartie Artie hung out.

Between the 250 and 150 metres Settler’s Joy was unable to obtain a run between Smartie Artie and Baumgartner.

Near the 100 metres Settler’s Joy then shifted to the inside of Baumgartner in an attempt to improve.

Near the 100 metres Baumgartner had to be checked when initially tightened for room by Bel Ombre (Bulent Muhcu) which shifted in when under pressure. The tightening was aggravated when Up Cups (David Pires) also shifted in when under pressure and raced tight to the outside of Bel Ombre which then resulted in Bulent Muhcu being unable to fully relieve the tightening to Baumgartner. After assessing all the evidence tendered no action was taken other than to severely reprimand Bulent Muhcu under AR 137(a), careless riding, for the initial tightening and notify him that he would be expected to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. David Pires was notified that he would be expected to straighten his mounts prior to them contributing to interference.
