“2014-2015Spring Term Graduate Application, Graduate Transfer Application, Quotas, Application Requirements and General Information”

  • ForMaster’s, PhD and Proficiency in Art applications, candidates must hold Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. For conditional acceptance, candidates must be in their final semester of undergraduate or graduate study. Candidates with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmacy and Science Faculty related disciplines (Engineering, Technology, Science and Literature) can apply for PhD Program. Candidates who graduated from Master’s non-thesis program are not eligible to apply for PhD programs. Only those who were enrolled in master’s non-thesis program before 6/2/2013 can apply for PhD programs.
  • It is desirable that the candidates hold Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline they intend to apply. If candidates hold a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree of another discipline than they applied for, they are entitled to Scientific Preparation Program to be determined by the Department and Executive Board of the Institute.
  • The candidates must present their graduation certificates or diplomas during the registration dates.
  • The candidates can apply for at most 3 different programs. However, they cannot be enrolled in 3 different programs(The dates and time can be checked on the websites of therespectiveInstitutes)
  • The candidates must sit for all the exams and interviews announced below and by their respective Departments. Otherwise, their applications will not be taken into consideration.
  • The candidates who are invited for an intervieware determined on the basis of ALES score, GPA,foreign language score, professional aptitude assessment and the pre-assessmentof a jury who comply with the guidelines and regulations established by the senate . The number of candidates who will be shortlisted for interview is 20 for the programs with a quota of 10 students or below. For the programs with a quota of 10 students orabove, there will be a twofold increase in the number of the candidates called for the interview.
  • Contribution refund (tuition) will not be made to those who voluntarily drop out of the Master’s thesis and non-thesis, and Distance Learning Master’s programs.
  • Applications to Graduate Programs are made online.
  • The date and place of interview may be different for each Institute. Therefore, they will be announced on the Institutes’ web page after the pre-registration.
  • Late applications and excuses regarding the registration will not be accepted.
  • Some of the programs in quota table may have pre-conditions or may be restricted to certain disciplines. Please check the table.
  • All uploaded documents must be certified and legible. Otherwise, they will be considered invalid.
  • If the program does not have the required minimum number of students, it may not be opened.

Application Procedure;

 Applications (Pre-registrations) are made online. The successful candidates must submit required documents to their respective Institutes during the registrations dates.

The candidates should visit the university’s website ( for pre-registration and create “a new account” using the application system. Then they should provide the necessary information asked on the page and upload the required documents in pdf and jpeg format.(For large file sizes, please lower the scan resolution)

Candidates must provide a current and an actively used email address (Candidates will be informed through email).

Uploaded documents will be checked and confirmed by the staff in the Institute and the candidate will receive a confirmation via email. Should there be any missing or invalid document(s), the candidate will be contacted via the provided e-mail address (such as invalid application, uncertified document or missing document, etc.). Confirmed options cannot be changed or deleted (Every confirmed action does not entitle the candidate to register. The candidate should meet all the criteria)

During the pre-registration, the candidates could update their information and the documents via logging in the system. Candidates whose applications have not been confirmed for any reason (invalid application, uncertified document or missing document) will be informed via email and will be asked to check and amend the documents.

Candidates whose applications have been confirmed and who do not have the required foreign language score will sit for the foreign language proficiency exam of “School of Foreign Languages”

Candidates meeting the conditions will sit for the exams stated on the application screen ( The place, date and time of the exam will be presented on the application screen)

Evaluations will be made according to the criteria given in the table below and successful candidates will be shortlisted

In any mismatch between the documents provided in the pre-registration and during the registration, the responsibility belongs to the candidate.Applicant who gave any wrong and missing document will not be accepted for the registration.

Application Requirements for Master’s and PhD/Proficiency in Art Programs;

  • Master’s with Thesis Programs;
  • MinimumALES score of 60 in the relevant score type (Minimum GRE score of 635 (old system) and 151 (new system), Minimum GMAT score of 466 “valid for 3 years”)
  • For the Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences’Programs and other English instructed Programs; Minimum YDS, ÜDS, or Marmara University Foreign Language Exam score of60. For Turkish instructed Programs in the Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences: minimum score of 50 in aforementioned exams (Information regarding the place of the exam can be obtained from the respective Institutes or Student Affairs of School of Foreign Languages during the document submission for pre-registration). Or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK (Council of Interuniversity).
  • The candidates applying to Foreign National quotas and programs in Institute of Fine Arts are not required to take the exam of ALES.
  • Master’s non-Thesis Programs;
  • ALES score is not required in master’s non-thesis programs.
  • Programs instructing in foreign language in the Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences;Minimum YDS, ÜDS, or Marmara University Foreign Language Exam score of 60(Information regarding the place of the exam can be obtained from the Institutes or Student Affairs of School of Foreign Languages during the document submission for pre-registration.) Orequivalent exam scores accepted by UAK
  • Distance Learning Master’s non-thesis Programs;

In the Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences

  • ALES score is not required for Distance Learning Master’s non-thesis Programs.
  • Foreign Language Proficiency is not required.
  • Evaluations will be made on the basis of GPA in the undergraduate study.
  • PhD (after Master’s Degree)/Proficiency in Art;
  • Minimum ALES score of 60 in the relevant score type (GRE, GMAT)
  • Minimum YDS or ÜDS score of 60. For Proficiency in Art, minimum score of 55. Or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK
  • Candidates applying to Foreign National quotas and Fine Arts Institute Programs are not required to take exam of ALES
  • PhD (after Bachelor’s Degree);
  • Minimum ALES score of 80 in the relevant score type (GRE, GMAT)
  • Minimum YDS or ÜDS score of 60.For Proficiency in Art, minimum score of 55. Or equivalent exam scores accepted by UAK
  • Candidates applying to Foreign National quotas are not required to take exam of ALES

Note:The validity period of exams are announced in accordance with the official pronouncement of theexams.

Required Documents for Pre-registration;

  • Diploma(must be uploaded in pdf and jpeg format);Candidates applying for PhD programs upon completing their Bachelor’s degree must have Bachelor’s diploma or for conditional acceptance, they must be in their final semester of undergraduate study. Candidates applying to the PhD programs upon completing their Master’s Degree must have Master’s diploma or must be in their final semester of graduate study
  • Candidates failing to submit their diplomas cannot be enrolled in the program.
  • Candidates who have not graduated yet must leave the ‘graduated’ box blank and should not upload any documents in this bar.
  • Academic Transcript (Certified),(must be uploaded in pdf and jpeg format)(required); (Candidates who have not graduated yet must upload an academic transcript showing all 7 semesters’ cumulative GPA up to now.)(The transcripts must be calculated in either 4 point or 100 point system) For PhD/Proficiency in Art Programs, candidates must upload Master’s Degree transcript.
  • ALES score(required); The “year” and the “period” of the exam must be entered in the system. The scores will be directly obtained from ÖSYM. (ALES exam score is valid for 3 years)
  • Foreign Language Score (YDS, ÜDS or equivalent exam ) (must be uploaded in pdf or jpeg format) (required);
  • This score must be uploaded for the above mentioned programs requiring Foreign Language Proficiency.
  • Candidates who do not have Foreign Language Proficiency score will sit for the proficiency exam of School of Foreign Languages.(Please see the calendar above for exam dates.)
  • Photograph(must be uploaded in pdf or jpeg format) (required);
  • The photograph should be passport or headshot photo identifying the candidate. This photo will be printed on the successful candidates’ student card. Inappropriate and landscape photos will be rejected.
  • Composition(to be submitted to the relevant Institute during the Interview); A composition explaining the candidate’s motivation for pursuing graduate studies must be submitted. (required for the Institute of Fine Arts)
  • Portfolio (For the Institute of Fine Arts, candidates must submit the portfolios to Art Major Jury during the Professional Aptitude Test. Please check the institute website for exemplary portfolios)
  • Equivalency(must be uploaded in pdf or jpeg format); If the applicant is a Turkish citizen, for diplomas awarded abroad, it is required to submit a copy of the diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK's (Turkish Council of Higher Education).
  • For Foreign Nationals;

In addition the listed documents above

  • Foreign Nationals must upload their diplomas, transcripts and other documents, translated into Turkish and the language of program they intend to apply (Every translation must be signed and stamped by a sworn translator)Certified copies will be asked during the registration.

*All documents must be translated either into Turkish or the language of program they intend to apply.

Required Documents for Registration;

  • Diploma(required);The candidates applying for master’s or integrated PhD program must hold Bachelor’s diploma. Candidates applying for PhD program upon completing their Master’s degree should hold Master’s diploma.
  • Candidates who are not graduated before registration deadline cannot be enrolled in the program as they cannot present their diploma.
  • Transcript (certified)(required); During the registration, candidates must submit certified transcript of 8 semesters(calculated in either 4 point or 100 point system)
  • Status of Military Service (Required)
  • ALES Score (print of the up-to-date certificate with a valid control code on it) (required) (It is valid for 3 years)
  • Foreign Language Score (YDS, ÜDS or equivalent exam ) (for the programs requiring this document) (required);

Unless there is no expiry date on YDS, UDS document, the scores obtained after September 2005 will be accepted (see YDS, UDS and

Equivalent exam table)

  • 2 Photographs (required);
  • Equivalency(must be uploaded in pdf or jpeg format)(required); If the applicant is a Turkish citizen, For diplomas awarded abroad, it is required to submit a copy of the diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK (Turkish Council of Higher Education)
  • A Copy of Turkish ID Card
  • For Foreign Nationals;

The Originals of the above mentioned documents must be presented during the registration

In addition the listed documents above

  • Foreign Nationals must submit their diploma, transcripts and other documents, translated into Turkish and the language of program they intend to apply to their respective Institute (required)
  • Equivalence (if they have); For diplomas awarded abroad, they are required submit a copy of the diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK (Turkish Council of Higher Education). (During the registration, the original of the copy will be presented and the copy of it will be certified by the Institute) (required)
  • A copy of Passport: ThePassport will be shown and the copy of it will be certified by the institute. (The passport must be either translated into Turkish or the language of program they intend to apply (required)
  • TÖMER certificate.(required)
  • All original documents are required to be brought to the registration
  • Original documents will be photocopied and certified.
  • If candidate cannot bring the original diploma, they can present a certified copy of it.
  • Any mismatch between the pre-registration and registration documents are within the responsibility of the candidate.

Graduate Transfer Applications;

  • Graduate Transfer; (Applications will not be made online. Documents must be submitted to the Institute)
  • The relevant Institute staff will check and confirm the documents. Should there be a missing document; necessary information will be provided by the institute (such as invalid application, uncertified document or missing document etc.) Therefore, it is important you bring all the required documents with you for the application.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed at least one semester in a higher education graduate program will be accepted in accordance with the University rules and criteria stated below.
  • Candidates should meet the foreign language requirements advertised in graduate program applications.
  • Required Documents:
  • An official letterfrom the homeinstitutionstating that thecandidateisregistered (The letter must state the date of enrolment)
  • A document stating that the candidate has no disciplinary punishment(It could also be stated in the transcript.)
  • Academic Transcript
  • The content of the courses the candidate completed and curricula (certified by the Institute)
  • A copy of Turkish ID card.
