2013 Wells FargoPrincipal of the Year Portfolio

  • The 2013 Local Wells FargoPrincipal of the Year (POY) portfolio and three copies are due to the Regional Education Facilitator assigned to your district (see the attached regional contact information) by 5:00 PM, November 30, 2012. All information should be mailed in the same envelope.
  • The district Principal of the Year must limit responses to the number of pages specified and must follow the guidelines for spacing and font. In order to provide all applicants with an equal opportunity, only the number of pages specified will be accepted. Any additional pages will not be considered by the Selection Committee.
  • The original portfolio and the three copies should be stapled once in the top left corner and should not include covers or binders of any kind.
  • Photographs, articles or materials other than what are specified in the application should not be included.
  • The district Principal of the Year must provide all information requested in the portfolio/application packet. Incomplete packets will not be considered. Once again, the completed packet should be mailed to the Regional Education Facilitator assigned to your district (see the attached contact and mailing information)

PORTFOLIO COMPONENTS

General Information (The Basic Data Sheet)

SectionI.Education and Professional Experience (5 points)

Describe, in no more than three pages, your educational background, leadership activities, professional memberships, and honors, books and articles published, and special projects in education. One of the pages should be a resume/vita documenting your educational career in reverse chronological order.

Section II.Activities, Interests and Memberships Outside of Education (5 points)

Describe, in one page, your activities, interests, and memberships outside of education.

Section III.Letters of Endorsement (5 points)

Submit no more than three letters of endorsement. These letters should include pertinent information about your character (including evidence of your work habits), adaptability, intellectual ability, quality of service, fitness for leadership, and any special qualities you possess.

Section IV.Strategic Leadership (10 points)

Describe, in no more than one page, how you create conditions in your school that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals.

Section V.Instructional Leadership (15 points)

Describe, in no more than two pages, your instructional leadership style and how you use best practices to create collaborative structures within the school to engage the students, staff, and overall professional community as it relates to the alignment of the curriculum of the school’s and the State’s accountability program. (Please attach appropriate, supporting data. Please limit the data to no more than (3) three pages.)

Section VI.Cultural Leadership (10 points)

Describe, in no more than one page, how you evaluate the school’s culture and then act on those evaluation results to impact overall performance of staff and students within the school.

Section VII.Human Resource Leadership (15 points)

Describe, in no more than two pages, how you serve as a leader in ensuring that your school is a professional learning community in which there are processes and systems in place that result in the recruitment, induction, support, evaluation, development and retention of a high performing staff.

Section VIII.Managerial Leadership (10 points)

Describe, in no more than one page, how you ensure that the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem solving, communicating expectations and scheduling.

Section IX.External Development Leadership (10 points)

Describe, in no more than one page, how you design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership.

Section X.Micropolitical Leadership (15 points)

Describe, in no more than two pages, how you employ an awareness of staff’s professional needs, issues, and interests to build cohesion and facilitate distributed governance and shared decision-making.
