·  Prize for Masters Essay/Thesis $500
·  Prize for PhD Thesis $1000
·  Prize for a journal article published in 2017 by an ANU graduate student $500

To apply, applicants need to use the online application portal and attach the following documents**:

1.  A completed application form (this form). This will need to be signed and scanned.

2.  A copy of the thesis/ article in Portable Document Format (.pdf)

3.  The supervisor’s letter of support.

4.  Examiners’ (or for an article, referees’) reports.

o  For Honours this must include numerical grades awarded by examiners, overall numerical grade for the Honours year and final level of award, the percentage weight for the thesis, and how the candidate ranked in relation to the overall Honours cohort in that year.

*Please note that for the Hons thesis and Masters essay/thesis prizes, only essays/theses that received at least 80% (HD/H1) can be considered.

**All documents must be uploaded for applications to be considered complete. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

Prizes will be selected on the following basis:

·  Quality in the specialist disciplines or field (as evinced in the examiners’ reports)

·  Evidence of how far the thesis was seen to advance broader feminist theory in studies of gender and/or sexuality

The following criteria will be taken into account in assessing the achievement of the two aims articulated above:

1.  Originality of argument in relation to extant literature

2.  Clarity in development of argument

3.  Critical use of evidence and textual materials

4.  Appropriate choice and use of methods

5.  Lucidity in writing

6.  Consistent, proper academic format of citation, bibliography as per the field

The work must have been completed and examined (or published) during 2017. Note that early online version of accepted journal articles published by 31 December 2017 will be considered.

The prizes will be announced at our Gender Institute anniversary event in 2018.
