2017Competitive Trail Ride

The rider must be currently enrolled in the State 4-H Program. The 4-Her must be or has been enrolled in the Trail Riding Project (188).

Junior riders must be 9-13 yearsold and senior riders 14-18 years old as of January 1st. A “shadow rider” is allowed for junior riders and first time seniors. A “shadow rider” is to follow and offer help only in case of an emergency.

All horse must be at least 4 years old by January 1st of this year.

Any horse of that correct age that has been trained by the rider from July 12th may be used. It does not have to be the same horse that is going to fair.

A conditioning record including pulse and respiration rates recorded during the conditioning of the horse for the ride must be kept from July 12th and be presented at the time of the registration on the day of the ride. An example of a record may be found in the “Trail Riding” Project Book.

A written test will be given the day of the ride. Junior riders will have true and false; seniors riders will have fill in or essay from the project book.

Points from the Condition Score Card, Horsemanship Score Card (found in the project book), the written test, the conditioning record and the obstacles will be totaled to determine the placing.

Rules concerning the tack and equipment, the actual ride, timing and penalty points, may be found in the project book (Trail Riding 188).

If a 4-Her plans to enter the Summit County Competitive Ride to be heldAugust 12,2017,at Silver CreekMetropark,a part ofthe SummitMetroparks, a $25.00 fee, must accompany the Trail Ride Registration form. This year,a stethoscope may be borrowed for a $10.00 refundable fee.

  • Please attach $25.00 to each project form and indicate junior or senior rider as well as the age in the area designated. Make checks payable to SummitCounty 4-H Saddle Horse Association. Individual checks are preferred.
  • Deadline is August 9, 2017

I have permission from my parent to enroll in a trail horse project with the understanding that there is some cost involved in purchasing, keeping and properly caring for this project animal. It is also my responsibility to transport my animal to designated places for project judging.

This registration form shall be completed annually by each 4-H youth enrolled in the Trail Project, and turned in to your club advisor who can turn in this form at the Summit County Fair or it can be emailed to me at or mailed to SC4HSAHA Trail Ride c/o Danusia Casteel, 4441 Johnson Rd, Norton Oh 44203 and postmarked by August 9, 2017. Failure to do so will make the member ineligible for the Summit County Competitive Trail Ride

Rules

  1. The horse and rider must be currently enrolled in the state 4-H Trail Project (#188) to be placed. This enrollment is due in the extension office, March 15th. If not, you can still participate but cannot be a representative and cannot participate in the state competitive trail ride.
  2. All horses must be 4 years old. January 1st is considered the birthday of all horses born in that year.
  3. The Competitive Trail Horse must be registered on this registration form due August 9, 2017 given or e-mailed to me before that date.
  4. All 4-H General Rules will be followed when applicable.
  5. Proof of inculcation for Rhinopneumontitis, tetnus, and influenza is required before the project animal may be brought to the competition. Proof must be turned in with the application if this horse is not going to the fair. Otherwise we already have the paperwork.
