ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF THE HONORABLE WILLIAM P. “BILLY” WALLACE, SR., OF MARLBORO COUNTY AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS MANY CONTRIBUTIONS THROUGH HIS PUBLIC SERVICE TO MARLBORO COUNTY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of William P. “Billy” Wallace, Sr., of Marlboro County on December 31, 2013, at the venerable age of ninetytwo; and

Whereas, born in Bennettsville,Billy Wallace was a son of South Carolina state Senator Paul A. and Ethlen Gardner Wallace, Sr. As a young man, Billy heeded the call of his country and served in the U.S. Army during World War II; and

Whereas, Mr.Wallacefirmly believed in active participation in the community, and he demonstrated that conviction through many years of civic and public service. He was a past member of the Bennettsville Rotary Club and formerly served on numerous boards and committees; and

Whereas, in addition, he served as a South Carolina state senator (1958), as Marlboro County Supervisor (19611981), and as a member of Marlboro County Council(19902002); and

Whereas, a man of faith, Billy Wallace was a charter member ofWallace Baptist Church and attended the Fred Harris SundaySchool Class at First United Methodist Church in Cheraw; and

Whereas, to recognize Mr. Wallace’s long life of service, the Marlboro County Administration Building was named in his honor; and

Whereas, preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Jean “Mot” Wallace, he leaves to cherish his memory his sons, William P. “Billy” Wallace,Jr., and Sidney E. Wallace; his daughters, Jean Wallace McLean and Ann Wallace Wilson; six grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of the Honorable William P. “Billy” Wallace, Sr., of Marlboro County and recognize his many contributions through his public service to Marlboro County and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to William P. Wallace, Jr., for the family.
