A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE NORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR CAPTURING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great pleasure in learning that the Northside Christian School girls varsity basketball team of Charleston County took top honors for the second consecutive year at the state competition hosted by Grace Christian School in West Columbia on February 16, 2013; and

Whereas, in a nailbiting contest against Oakwood Christian School of Anderson, the Northside Lady Eagles defeated their worthy opponents 5855 to bring home the state trophy; and

Whereas, Northside entered the championship game with an enviable record of 133, but by the end of the first quarter of play, the Lady Eagles had fallen ten points behind Oakwood; and

Whereas, by halftime, Northside’s Lady Eagles had recovered their momentum and brought the score to a tie, but in the third quarter Northside scored no points and trailed Oakwood by thirteen points as they entered the final quarter; and

Whereas, Oakwood and Northside traded baskets in the fourth quarter until there was only a minute and a half left in the game, but within thirty seconds, Northside had reduced Oakwood’s lead to nine points, and five seconds later, the lead was cut 6; and

Whereas, in the last twentyfive seconds of the game, Northside scored nine unanswered points, winning the 2013 state title game 5855; and

Whereas, through skilled coaching, Head Coach Dan Smith and Assistant Coach Willie Potter used their own athletic skills and training to mold a team of champions and impart invaluable life lessons to these outstanding young athletes; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly appreciates the honor and respect that the Northside Christian School girls varsity basketball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members anticipate hearing of the continued success of these fine studentathletes in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Northside Christian School girls varsity basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season, and congratulate them for capturing the 2013 South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Class AA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to School Administrator Dr. Cecil Beach and Head Coach Dan Smith.
