AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR CHRISTIE SAVAGE FOR HER DEDICATED COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND TO COMMEND HER FOR HER SIX YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF THE NORTHWOOD HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION IN THE CITY OF COLUMBIA.

Whereas, Christie Savage, having served six years with distinction, has stepped down from her post as president of the Northwood Hills Neighborhood Association in the City of Columbia; and

Whereas, the oldest of four children, Christie Savage wasborn in Union County. In preparation for a life of service, she graduated from Durham Business College and studied political science at the State University of New York; and

Whereas, as one who has always spoken up for her beliefs and the needs of others, she credits her commitment to the community to the influence of her grandmother, Mary Emma Beaty Ferguson; and

Whereas, Christie’s early experiences taught her skills that proved invaluable in her later work. Along the way, she worked with a local communityaction program, served as a law assistant, organized tenant groups, worked as a paralegal, and served in numerous other ways; and

Whereas, she currentlyserves asprogram coordinator for the Innovations Health Program of the Eau Claire Cooperative Health Centers, a program designed to provide health care in the community and in the home where; and

Whereas, in appreciation for her achievements, Christie has been recognized for numerous causes. During her tenure as president of the Northwood Hills Neighborhood Association, she was named one of the “Movers and Shakers” by the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods, andshe received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Eau Claire Community Council, along with many other honors; and

Whereas, as president of the Northwood HillsNeighborhood Association, she was instrumental in dealing with noise and pollution from a neighboring business; securing a traffic light and streetscaping from Fairfield Road and North Main Street; assisting the city with neighborhood cleanups; meeting with city council and other city leaders to discuss areas of concern; and developing working relationships with Mayor Bob Coble, Mayor Steve Benjamin, and other Columbia elected officials to ensure the needs of the neighborhood would be met; and

Whereas, Christie currently serves as president of the Eau Claire Community Council, a 501C (3) organization encompassing some fortyone neighborhoods in the North Columbia area. She also serves on thecity’s CitizenAdvisory Committee; and

Whereas, grateful for her firm commitment to those she serves, the House of Representatives salutes Christie Savage for her many years of selfless service, and the members wish her much success and fulfillment in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Christie Savage for her dedicated community leadership and commend her for her six years of distinguished service as president of the Northwood Hills Neighborhood Association in the City of Columbia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Christie Savage.
