5th ANNUAL MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS AWARDS

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Entry materials must have been created between January 2011 and September 2012

All entries must be received byNovember 9, 2012 at 5:00 PM. All entries must be complete, contain appropriate payment, and clearly identify the primary contact person responsible for the submission.

Submittals must be submitted as a pdf on a CD. You are responsible for making sure the file is readable.

Application form (s) and Firm Information submitted as a hard copy with payment.

Firms can submit multiple entries in as many categories as desired. The cost per entry is$75for members and $100for non-members.

Firms who are winners will get one complimentary SMPS Holiday Party ticket. The SMPS Holiday Party will take place at thePacific Design Center on December 6, 2012 (1 ticket per firm)

1.Entry Form and Payment
In a sealed envelope -Place one copy of the completed entry form, hard copy of the last pages, firm information, Tribute Page and Certificate Information and copy of payment confirmation if made by credit card through Eventbrite.If you are submitting multiple entries please staple the information for each entry. Note - payment by check or credit card will be accepted
Payment by Check - All checks should be made payable to “SMPS/LA, 22815 Frampton Ave., Torrance, CA90501.” This address is for accounting purposes only and submissions must be sent to the address indicated on the entry form. A single check may be provided for multiple entries as long as copies of the check are included with each submission and the payment is clearly noted on the entry form.
Credit Card Payments - Note that credit transactions will incur a surcharge.Credit Card Payments may be made on line through the Eventbrite Link. Make sure to print a copy of your payment confirmation to include in the sealed envelope with your submission.

2.SUBMITTAL

Burn a CD with a pdf of the PowerPoint presentation include a CD Label identifying the category name

e.g. Holiday/Corporate Identity/Brochure/Website. In a sealed envelope include items under number 1 Entry Form and Payment. This sealed envelope will be removed for judging. Submit one (1) PowerPoint presentation as a pdf for each category and project your firm is submitting. If you are submitting marketing collateral materials include 4 copies.

If you are submitting more than one entry, one entry per CD.

3.CATEGORY SPECIFIC EXHIBITS

A.Website
Provide complete web address and image of the home page. Jurors will interactively peruse website online.

B.Corporate Identity
Submit digitalimages which represent a sampling of materials that most effectively convey your firm’s brand. Images of website pages may also be provided to illustrate relationship to overall branding program. If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

C.Direct Mail Campaign
Provide image of the ad or of each ad in a series. If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

D.Milestone Recognition
Submit images of packaging. For electronic communications, include electronic images. If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

E.Advertising
Provide imagesof the ad or of each ad in a series. For online advertisements, also include web address where displayed, and electronic images.If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

F.Media Relations
Supply images of published features, articles and press releases supported by list of media outreach history and associated hits that demonstrate campaign effectiveness. If available online please provide link. If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

G.Project Pursuit
Provide detail on who was involved in pursuit efforts, including external and internal team members. Also indicate if multiple offices were involved. You can show the detail either in a write up or excel sheet/graph illustrating process and people.Include digital images of pursuit materials, such as proposals, leavebehind materials.If you are submitting hard copies of marketing materials include 4 sets.

*Finalists will be asked to submit a display board for exhibit at the SMPS Holiday Party, at thePacific Design Center on December 6, 2012. Attendees of the program will have an opportunity to view display boards and vote for their favorite entry across all categories. Ballots will be tallied onsite and the “People’s Choice”award will be presented during the ceremony. Finalists are strongly encouraged to be present.

Where do I Send my Entry Submission?

All entries must be received on or before 5 PM on Friday November 9, 2012. All entries should be clearly marked as “SMPS/LA MCA Entry” on the label and be addressed as follows:

Note: Materials will not be returned. All entries become the property of SMPS/LA and may be displayed during educational events as examples of best practices in marketing communications.

How Are Entries Judged?

The MCA competition is not just about design, but also about results. Just like your firm value effective marketing that yields measurable results, so do the MCA jurors. The entry criteria help the jurors examine the intended target and desired response, the process employed to craft the message and deliver the communication, and the subsequent results. Your piece will be judged on its effectiveness and return on investment, in addition to quality, message, and design.

A panel of jurors, comprised of professionals with recognized expertise in marketing, graphics, and communications, will gather to review submissions and assess scorings in each category based on the thoroughness of the entry and quality of submitted materials.

Points will be allocated at follows:

  • Following Directions: How complete is the response to Entry Criteria? [10 points]
  • Idea: Is the content creative? Is there a definite objective? Has a target audience clearly been identified? [30 points]
  • Process: Was adequate research conducted? Why was the medium selected? Is the message distinctive? [30 points]
  • ROI: Were desired results achieved? [30 points]
