Dear MBC Counselors:

Please let me start by expressing my gratitude to you for assisting with this year’s MBC. If you are like me weekends are my only time with family and friends and completing home projects. So giving up a couple Saturday mornings is a big deal.

To ensure that everything meets the requirements/standards of the national office for merit badge activities, I have attached some forms that need to be completed. Simply complete them, print them out and return them to me at the address below. Or you can scan the documents and E-mail them back to me. If you are already a registered counselor for the merit badge you will be teaching, please disregard these instructions. Also if you have not completed the on-line youth protection training in the last year, or if it will run out while we are doing MBC, I would like to ask that you please go on line and complete that. I did it recently and it only took me 17 minutes. Follow these directions; To take Youth Protection training go to MyScouting.org and create an account. From the MyScouting.org portal, click on E-Learning and take the Youth Protection training. Upon completion, you may print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application or submit the completion certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council.

I have also attached a copy of the flyer that went out to the scouts. As you can see MBC will be the first Saturday of each month starting in January and running thru March. We will have an inclement weather makeup date on Saturday March 17th. So please mark your calendars appropriately. We will be in the Tri-Valley High School in Dresden. You can be there as early as 8 am am to set up. Opening ceremony will be at 9am and the scouts should be in their rooms by 9:15 for the first class. The last session ends at noon and we should be out of the building by 12:30pm. The Tri-Valley School System, Principal Pottmyer and Craig Strohacker, the head of facilities and operations, have graciously donated the use of the building to us but there are a few stipulations. One of them is that we vacate the building by 12:30 and the other is that boys not leave a lot of cleaning for the janitors.

Again, thank you so much for your time and efforts. This letter really cannot express my gratitude to you.

Yours in scouting,

Janell Potts

INVITATION

Parents;

Have you ever wondered if there was any way you could help your troop just even a little bit without being the person to end up running the project or event? Or maybe as a new parent to the Boy Scouts you don’t quite understand why things are done so differently than in Cub Scouts?

Well, each Saturday morning during MBC, we will be offering free of charge informational sessions to help explain the expectations of the boy scout organization. These mini sessions (20 minutes) will cover everything from youth protection and the advancement process, to how to help out with fund raising for your son’s troop or how to assist with a troop activity. We will even discuss becoming a merit badge counselor. Such small efforts by a single parent can make a world of difference for a troop.

Look for hand outs at the registration table the morning of MBC for information about what is being offered that day. Then grab a cup of coffee and come have a seat. It is guarenteed to be enlightening.
