SAT/ACT College Prep

Program Goals / Objectives: The SAT/ACT and College Prep Program has been devised by the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers & Scientists to help students plan and prepare for college. One SAT/ACT and College Prep course is offered to middle school and high school students’ grades 7-12. The goal is to provide an affordable, local SAT/ACT and College prep course for youth from diverse backgrounds.

The course includes Math & English SAT/ACT preparation, what the SAT/ACT tests measure, the structure of the tests, test taking tips and major test concepts and strategies. Also, the course will cover completing a student College Portfolio, scholarship and college related guest speakers.

Course Material: “The New SAT & PSAT” workbook by SPARKNOTES, Justin Kestler, “Cracking the ACT” workbook by The Princeton Review, College Portfolio Templates

Course Location: CABPES Center, 3rd Floor, Qwest Building, 4301 E. Colfax Ave., Denver. Course Day/Time: Wednesday Evenings, 6pm to 8pm

Requirements: ACT Practice Test, Copy of High School Transcript, Copy of any previous SAT/ACT Test Results, Daily At Home SAT/ACT Study Time, Daily At Home College Prep Planning, Research & submit College & Scholarship Applications, Essay Writing, Final Portfolio Completion, Computer Skills, Phone & Email contact information for parent & student, Word 2007- 2010, Home/School Computer and Internet Access.

Parents: Please ensure your student plans time reading and test prep problem solving, applying for scholarships, internships & summer camps. Please ask to review your student’s college portfolio. Ensure your student attends each class. Please volunteer to help this class or the CAPBES organization.
