Coach Aliyy was inducted into the Florida State Basketball Hall of Fame (2007), drafted into the NBA by the BOSTON CELTICS as well as the ABA-NEW YORK NETS (1971), won FAMU D.R.S. 1ST Class A State Championship as a first year head coach (2004), and had a repeat appearances to State Final Four (2005, 2009 State Runner-Up),
Current Team G.P.A. is a 3.5 and has been a standard of Famu D.R.S. Girls Basketball the past 8 years.
The Lady Rattlers are led by the team’s lone upper classman, Floor General, and Team Captain - Courtney Washington.
As a full time starter now, she is quickly making her presence known with her leadership and “cat like” defensive
prowess. She leads the team in assists and steals with over a 130 respectively this season. Courtney has also shown
the same tenacity in her studies. She has begun taking college courses through dual enrollment at Florida A&M
University.
LaKaris Salter roams the interior for the Lady Rattlers and makes her presence known offensively and defensively, with
the ability to stretch defenses with her perimeter touch. She has been a member of the Varsity basketball team since
7th Grade. Currently as a freshman, she has scored double digits points in 22 of 25 games played,
had 19 games of 8+ rebounds, obtained a double-double in 15 games played, has blocked 3+ shots
in 16 games played, and has 15 games of 3+ steals. She is making her mark of becoming one of the better
players in the school’s history.
Jazmine Jones is an athletic young player for the Lady Rattlers, whose potential is unlimited. Her uncanny
ability to drive the ball to the basket and soar through the air makes her exciting to watch. As a 7th grader and 1st year
member of the Varsity basketball team, she has scored double digits points and pull down 6+ rebounds in
16 of 25 games played, has 3+ assists in 14 games, has 3+ steals in 13 games, and has manage to obtain
3+ blocks in 7 games. She also is laying her foundation of becoming one of the better players in the school’s
history.
JaNyia McNealy is in her first year as a 8th grade Lady Rattler. She has brought to the team a since of mental & physical
toughness, as well as the ability to shoot the ball that has aided in her team’s success. She has scored double digit
points in 8 games, has 3+ assists in 17 games, and 3+ steals in 12 of 25 games played.
The Remaining 3 players – Cherrise Leon, Aaliyah Barrington, and Katelyn Stevens make up the 7 woman team, each bringing their own individual contributions that has helped this team that once started the season with 9 players, gel into one cohesive group.
19 former players are currently enrolled in college, some by way of a basketball or academic scholarships or have graduated college.
Jessica Hall (former player) of the 2004 Class 1A State Championship team recently earned her Master’s Degree from University of Central Florida where she played as a graduate student from University of Memphis. Currently she serves Director of Basketball Operation at University of South Alabama. She scored 41 points in the Class 1A State Championship game and was named Tournament MVP.
Brittany Hudson (former player) of the 2004 State Championship team has graduated from Valdosta State University and currently pursuing the possibilities of playing in Europe.
Lesheria Stevens (former player) of the 2004 State Championship team and 2005 State Runner-Up team has graduated from Clayton State University. She played 2 years prior at Chipola Community College, earning numerous player of the week awards.
Nadirah Gardner (former player) of the 2004 State Championship team and 2005 State Runner-Up team is currently playing for Georgia Southwestern State University. She played 1 year prior at Gulf Coast Community College.
Keishara Green (former player) of the 2004 State Championship team and 2005, 2009 Runner-Up team is currently playing for Saint Leo University.
Erika Collins (former player) of the 2005, 2009 State Runner-Up team recently earned national MVP honors as a member of the 2010-2011 girls’ flag football national champions, Florida A&M University.
