Please indicate in 200 words (one page or less) why you are interested in attending this professional development program and how you can use what you will learn in your classroom.

If accepted for this professional development program, I agree to complete the preparatory background readings and activities, attend the January 10th and February 7th Saturday workshops (Saturday January 24th is a designated snow day), and develop and submit two classroom activities on or before March 1st 2015. All participants who successfully complete this professional development program will receive a $200 stipend and East Asia curriculum materials (valued at $100). Teachers who successfully complete this program will be certified as National Consortium for Teaching About Asia alumni and are eligible for 30 hours of professional development credit.

I also agree to mail Jeffrey Melnik a deposit acceptance check for $25.00 written to the UTC Asia Program if I am accepted for the program. Checks will not be cashed and will be returned to each participant at the conclusion of Workshop 1 on Saturday, January 10th. This deposit check guarantees your space.

Applications will be reviewed and notification of acceptances made on a “first come, first served” basis but all applications must be received by on or before Friday, November 21st . Teachers who want to be considered for stipends are advised to apply early since we have funds to accept only 20 teachers.
