2011 Barbara Paul Robinson Scholarship Application

The Appalachian College Association is pleased to announce the Barbara Paul Robinson Scholarship, named in honor of a New York City attorney who provided pro bono services to the association. A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded annually to an ACA college student who shows great interest and potential to be an attorney and dedicated to making a positive change in Appalachia.

Applications must be in the ACA office no later than February 28, 2011

Eligibility Requirements:

·  Must be a student of an ACA member institution

·  Full-time senior in the spring of 2011

·  Grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale)

Preference is given to students who have been accepted to, or can show documentation of applying to, an accredited law school.

Complete Applications:

·  Application form electronically submitted to ACA

·  Transcript showing grades through the fall semester of 2010 (issued from the registrar, but may be unofficial copy);

·  Documentation of acceptance or application to law school (A letter of acceptance from the school, an application receipt, etc.);

·  A 500-word essay describing the applicant’s personal and academic background and professional goals as a conscientious attorney, including any steps towards applying for law school or legal internships, if any;

·  Letters of recommendation (no more than three--One must be from a faculty member on your campus).

The Robinson Award is sent to the financial aid office of the law school where the successful applicant will attend law school.

The successful applicant must agree to write a thank you note to Ms. Robinson (with copy sent to the ACA) and agree to send the ACA a yearly update of their progress while attending law school (1 page or less, due in December). Updates are used to prepare reports and grant proposals, ensuring that the Robinson Scholarship is available in future years.
