Breakout Session Report
Session Name and Number – B-2 Health Science Learning Communities/Societies
Session Leaders – Rubens Pamies & Courtney Fletcher
Proposed Goal 1 (include specific outcomes):
a) Increase the knowledge of UNMC faculty of learning societies as an approach to inter-professional education.
b) Sponsor a seminar conducted by experts from other Academic Health Centers with experience in learning communities to inform UNMC faculty about what is needed to develop learning societies at UNMC
Key outcome: to engage all college curriculum committees, ICE faculty from COM, and graduates of our Educational Scholars program, in the potential benefits of a learning society to enhance the inter-professional education program at UNMC.
Proposed Goal 2 (include specific outcomes):
a) Identify and groom leaders from all UNMC colleges to play key roles in developing the inter-professional education learning societies.
Primary outcome: leaders identified, and incentives to faculty to participate in these learning societies are identified; should open opportunities for other faculty.
Proposed Goal 3 (include specific outcomes):
a) Create implementation plan for learning societies to meet UNMC and individual college commitments to inter-professional education.
Outcomes: Core plan developed; follow up on issues and plans identified including social aspects for learning societies. IT needs, opportunities for society research and service learning projects; opportunities for alumni development and external funding.
