MN Legislator Recognized for Leadership in Advancing Home Care Industry
Roseville, MN –A leading Minnesota state legislator will be honored at the Minnesota HomeCare Association’s 2010 Public Policy Conference on November 18, 2010 for his legislative support of the home care industry. This influential legislator is Representative Al Doty.
Rep. Doty is being recognized for his responsiveness to constituents and the needs of personal care assistance (PCA) agencies throughout the state by chief authoring legislation in the House that provided an exception to unnecessary PCA training for Medicare-certified agencies. In chief authoring HF2450, Rep. Doty worked with key stakeholders to ensure that the omnibus human services policy bill included provisions that allowed an exception for Medicare-certified agencies from the PCA training requirements for qualified professionals, management and personal care assistants responsible for working with care recipients who are ventilator dependent. This legislation reduced unnecessary burdens on Medicare-certified agencies while ensuring access to quality PCA services for the people of Minnesota.
“In these times of healthcare reform and legislative budget cuts, MHCA is committed to improving the economic viability of our statewide home care community,” said Neil Johnson, MHCA Executive Director. “This begins with the support of key legislators who understand the value of home care in today’s overall healthcare paradigm”. A recent AARP poll shows that home care is the preferred care choice for no less than 95% of seniors and retiring Baby Boomers.
‘Advocating for You!’ is the theme of this year’s MHCA Public Policy Conference. The conference offers information and tools that home care professionals need to thrive in today’s changing healthcare landscape. A corollary Tech Expo demonstrates ways to leverage new technology to streamline communications, increase productivity and compliance as well as enhance the quality of home care given to clients.
