A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE JOHNSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS TRACK TEAM, OF FLORENCE COUNTY, FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that the Johnsonville High School girls track team garnered their eleventh state championship in Class A competition on May 10, 2008; and

Whereas, the Johnsonville Lady Flashes not only recorded an impressive regular season of competition but also have won twentyfour consecutive regional championships, making them the “winningest” girls state track team in history; and

Whereas, sophomore London Barnhill placed first in the pole vault for Johnsonville, senior Tia Singletary took first place in both the high jump and the long jump, and both were named to the AllState Team; and

Whereas, in one of their closest finishes, seniors Amber Perry, Tia Singletary, Callie Vogler, and Ellen Stone, led the Johnsonville Lady Flashes to a twoandahalfpoint victory over secondplace rivals, the Lamar Silver Foxes; and

Whereas, two seventhgrade runners gave incredible support to the close meet when unexpectedly Kaylo Ho placed third in the twomile race, and then the relay team finished third when another seventhgrade runner was substituted for a teammate who became ill at the meet and could not finish the critical four by four hundred; and

Whereas, in a sport that requires strength, endurance, and economy of speed, Coach Steve Phillips and Assistant Coaches Brian Morse, Justin Files, and Traci Le Bherz have forged a championship team through relentless work in demanding practices; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the Johnsonville girls track team for another stellar season and for bringing pride and recognition to their school and to their community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Johnsonville High School girls track team, of Florence County, for a successful season, and congratulate them for capturing the 2008 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jim Berry and Coach Steve Phillips.
