RECORDING PROCESS GUIDELINES
The following procedures must be followed to submit a DVD:
- School music directors are to supervise the audition recording process, and review the DVD before submission. (Choose a neutral backdrop, one that does not display the name or mascot of the school.)
- Use a good quality DVD. DVDs will not be returned.DVDs must be in the NTSC format for American players. Make sure that your DVD plays in a consumer DVD player and not solely in laptops or desktop computers.
- Only one student audition per DVD.
- Only use internal camera microphones; may be stereo or mono audio, but no enhancements will be allowed (i.e. no reverb, no delay).
- Students may not use headphones, metronomes, or supplemental/additional microphones, to perform the scales, music excerpts, or style grooves. Except for drum set, an MP3 playback device is required for a portion of the audition.
- The student will state his or her first name only and the section or part for which he or she is auditioning (lead part or section part).
- Each DVD and DVD case must be labeled with ONLY the student’s first name and instrument.
- The recording is to be done in one continuous take and the signed form attesting to that requirement must accompany the DVD.
- A date and time stamp must be visible at all times on the recording, or, if no stamp is available, an analog clock with a sweeping second hand must be visible on the recording at all times.
- The student will perform the excerpts and improvisation with the MP3 recordings that are provided.
- No audio or visual effects (i.e. fade in, fade out, cross fade) are permitted.
DVDs will be disqualified if these procedures are not followed, if a completed and signed Nomination/DVD Authentication Form does not accompany the DVD, or if the DVD is received after the deadline established by the Executive Director and MBDA President.
By signing below, you are attesting that: 1) the student is eligible to audition for the ensemble, 2) the student followed the procedures for the audition, 3) the student did perform the audition on the DVD, and 4) that you have read and understood all the procedures and guidelines as outlined above. DVDs received without this form and signatures will be disqualified.
