A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE MRS. MARISA VICKERS FOR BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, TO WISH HER LUCK AS SHE COMPETES FOR NATIONAL MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR, AND TO THANK HER FOR HER TIRELESS DEDICATION IN MAKING HAND MIDDLE SCHOOL AN AWARD WINNING INSTITUTION.
Whereas, Mrs. Marisa Vickers of Richland School District One’s Hand Middle School, was named South Carolina Middle School Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
Whereas, Mrs. Vickers will compete for national honors as Middle School Principal of the Year at the Summer Leadership Institute this June; and
Whereas, Mrs. Vickers is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Education in Administration. She is continuing her graduate studies in Curriculum and Instruction, also at the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she was a teacher in Richland School District Two for seven years before becoming a consultant for Richland School District One’s Programs for Academically and Creatively Talented; and
Whereas, in 1995 she became assistant principal at Hand Middle School and took the Principal position in 2000; and
Whereas, Mrs. Vickers has written numerous publications and has attended and presented at several conferences including the Best Practices Conference at Furman University and the School Leadership Executive Institute Veteran Principals Roundtable; and
Whereas, her works have garnered her various honors including the National Association of Elementary School Principals Arts Award and recognition as the President of Middle Level Principals Division by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
Whereas, since her tenure as Principal, Hand Middle School has received such accolades as the Middle School Award of Excellence for two consecutive years; Flagship Schools of Promise; Exemplary Writing Award; Arts and Basic Curriculum School; and the Kennedy Center Creative Ticket Award of Excellence; and
Whereas, along with her seventeen years as a school administrator, she has been active in the community, serving as a Member of the Luster of Churches Board, member of the East Columbia Optimist Club, and Sunday school teacher at Shandon United Methodist Church; and
Whereas, Mrs. Vickers credits Hand Middle School’s students, teachers, staff, parents, and community for their commitment to making Hand Middle School one of South Carolina’s best in exemplary education. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Marisa Vickers for being named South Carolina Middle School Principal of the Year, wish her luck as she competes for the national title, and thank her for her tireless dedication to making Hand Middle School an award winning institution.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Marisa Vickers.
