2015 STEM Scholarship

Criteria for Eligibility

AFCEA Ft Knox Gold Vault will award one or more $5,000 STEM teacher scholarships to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school.

Criteria for Eligibility:

To qualify, applicants must:

o  U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants.

o  Students enrolled in distance-learning or online programs should contact the Fort Knox Gold Vault Chapter at for clarification on eligibility.

o  Graduate-level candidates must currently be in their second semester and taking at least two (2) semester-equivalent courses per term at accredited college or university in the United States and majoring in secondary education for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. middle/intermediate and high schools at the time of application. A current overall GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in their current program at an accredited U.S. college or university required at the time of application.

o  Seniors level undergraduate students in a dual degree teaching program will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

o  Undergraduate students are ineligible to apply.

o  Credential/licensure candidates must be U.S. citizens with a completed B.S. degree or graduate degree in a STEM major. Must be currently enrolled in a program at the time of application. Expected graduation/completion date cannot be in the year the scholarship is awarded.

Scholarship Application Rules and Requirements:

1) Submission Deadline:

Scholarship application packages must be date stamped (if emailed) or postmarked (if mailed) no later than November 16, 2015.

2) Required Documentation:

ü  Completed AFCEA Gold Vault Chapter Application Form. Incomplete, late or illegible applications will not be considered for scholarship award.

ü  Transcripts of all undergraduate coursework (must be issued by Registrar's Office).

NOTE - electronic submissions preferred to E-mail:

If electronic submission is not possible, please send official document to the AFCEA address listed below to arrive by the deadline date. It can be a student-issued copy, but must have Registrar's seal or signature.

ü  (Optional) At least two letters of recommendation - both must be from current or recent faculty.

If currently employed as a teacher, have you arranged for an additional letter of recommendation from your school principal to be received by the deadline date?

4) Verification of Receipt:

A confirmation email will be sent to all applicants no later than November 17, 2015 acknowledging AFCEA Gold Vault Chapter’s receipt of their package.

5) Selection Process:

A Scholarship Committee, comprised of 5-7 AFCEA Directors, Officers or Members, will evaluate and rank all applications received. The final score will be comprised of Letter of Recommendation, cumulative awards identified in application, and the quality of the Applicant’s application. No relatives of applicants will be allowed to serve on the Scholarship Selection Committee.

6) Notification:

Applicants will be notified of final Selection results by December 16, 2015.

7) Payment:

Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the Scholarship Winner in the form of a check drawn on the AFCEA Ft Knox Gold Vault Chapter Education Fund account. Funds must be used for STEM education purposes only, but may include books, computers, tuition, etc. Awards may be presented at an Academic Awards ceremony at the student’s school or a Gold Vault General Meeting.

31. After demonstrated academic achievement and leadership potential, financial need is important to the Foundation's Scholarship Selection Committee. In compliance with the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the AFCEA Educational Foundation will not release Letters of Nomination/Recommendation to any person or place.
