2014 Girls Varsity Track

Congratulations on being part of the Girls Varsity Track Team. You are about to enter a 3-month journey of excitement, reward, and personal fitness. Success is not a matter of luck or your finish position. Success depends on adequate preparation and determination. We will work hard and you will be prepared for your events. We have been establishing a winning tradition over the last few years. The numbers are up and we have been finishing very high in track invitationals and dual meets. It is now your turn to make your own mark in the winning tradition. Our success this year will depend on how hard we work, how well we encourage others, and how we work together. Do you want to be a champion?

EXPECTATIONS AND RULES

  1. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES (tanning, hair, work, no workout clothes, etc)

Two miles after practice is finished and you are expected to run 20 minutes at home on the day of your absence. You will also miss a meet for each unexcused absence. Your third unexcused will be removal from the team.

  1. EXCUSED ABSENCES (a dentist or doctor appointment, or an illness/family matter) To be excused, I need a note from a parent stating your reason for missing practice. You are expected to run 20 minutes at home on the day of your absence. If your absence is because of illness, try to do what you can at home. No penalty will be given after practice when you return. Excessive absences will result in suspension from competition at the coach’s discretion.
  2. BE ON TIME FOR BUS TRIPS, we will not wait for you.
  3. To ride home with a parent, a parent must talk with me at the meet and signed a form.
  4. ALWAYS HUSTLE!!!!! GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT IN BOTH PRACTICE AND MEETS!!!!! Your meet participation will be based on practice effort.
  5. If you are not doing what you are told during practice, you will be asked to leave practice. Any coach or volunteer may ask you to leave. Please behave. This may result in sitting out a meet.
  6. You are to dress up (look nice) for all home track meets and wear a track shirt for away meets.
  7. Use appropriate language at all times. This is a state rule. Keep your composure!! Negative emotions or actions will not be tolerated. You can be disqualified for your choice of language and behavior such as throwing a baton down or swearing. Cheer on EVERYONE from our team and opposing teams.

  9. I expectgood grades and citizenship-YOU SET THE EXAMPLE!!! Disciplinary referral in school, minor or major violation as defined in the athletic code and/or student handbook, or other discipline problems could result in possible suspension from a meet(s).
  10. Do your part to make our team the best it can be. Have a positive attitude, work hard, know and accept your role on the team.
  11. Participation will be determined on attitude, practice performance, and attendance. Work is not a reason to miss practice.
  12. Members should be picked up promptly when the bus returns from away meets.
  13. Practice will last until 5:00-5:15 daily. No excuses!!! Have rides here at that time. If we want to be better, we need to be in better shape than last year. More time needs to be dedicated to have more success.
  14. We will camp out with only the girl’s team. Pre and Post meet team meetings are mandatory. You are allowed to only miss one of each. Missing more than one will be a suspension from a meet. For home meets, we will meet at 3:45 sharp. We will also meet as a team after the meet is finished.
  15. To earn a varsity letter, 10 points must be earned and you must finish the season in GOOD STANDING. Points are earned for placing in a meet, a point for working a junior high track meet and a point for every personal best.
  16. Awards Banquet attendance is mandatory in order to receive your awards. June 3 or 4.
  17. I reserve the right to determine who will be competing in EACH EVENT at EACH MEET.
