A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT) TEAM AND THEIR COACHES, ANGIE FREEMAN AND MADONNA MOORE, ON BEING NAMED COCHAMPIONS WITH THE SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SAT TEAM IN THE 2004 SAT STATE TOURNAMENT AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

Whereas, being a member of an academic team allows students the unparalleled opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing their mental talents as well; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Department of Education organized the first Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Tournament in 1999 to recognize students who perform well on the real SAT and is patterned after championship competitions sponsored by the South Carolina High School League with schools grouped according to enrollment; and

Whereas, Lexington High School participated in the highly competitive AAAA Division and, with the guidance and leadership of Coaches Angie Freeman and Madonna Moore, the SAT Team faced intimidating opponents but through hard work and perseverance were rewarded with the chance to become state champions once again; and

Whereas, Lexington High School, with its long tradition of academic excellence, has won the title of state champions four times in the past six years making the Lexington High SAT Team the team to beat each year; and

Whereas, Principal Creig Tyler and Assistant Principle Melissa Rawl are extremely proud of the team as they continue to support the State Department of Education by competing in this competition annually as we seek to improve SAT scores in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the Lexington High SAT Team has again brought great honor to not only their friends and family but also to the students, faculty, alumni, and staff of their school and the community as a whole; and

Whereas, the members of this championship team are: Stephanie Caldwell, T. J. Cofield, Bill Cossen, Mark Deaton, Rachel Dolan, Casey Duffy, Emily Floyd, Jennifer Ghelardini, Kyle Johnson, Amy Karwan, Dan Karwan, Justin Law, Dan Mackay, Alex Mackintosh, Layne Madden, Daniel Mallory, Robert Meldau, Tyler Moses, Mallory Porter, Kaylee Rogers, Jessie Shaffer, Ankit Shrivastava, Jamie Stancil, Adam Wilson, and Reed Zhao; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the academic skills of these young South Carolinians and urge them to use their mental talents and abilities to achieve great success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the members of the Lexington High School Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Team and their coaches, Angie Freeman and Madonna Moore, on being named cochampions with the Spring Valley High School SAT Team in the 2004 SAT State Tournament and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to academic excellence.
