A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO WELCOME WALTER R. “BUD” WAHL OF STREATOR, ILLINOIS, A DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIONS CLUBS, TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS AND LEADERSHIP ON BEHALF OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIONS CLUBS.

Whereas, Walter R. “Bud” Wahl of Streator, Illinois, has been a member of the Streator Hardscrabble Lions Club and a Lion since 1981; and

Whereas, Director Wahl was elected to serve a twoyear term as a director of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 86th International Convention, held in Denver, Colorado, June 30July 4, 2003; and

Whereas, prior to his term as director, Mr. Wahl served in many other offices including club membership chair, club president, zone chair, district LCIF and Extension chairs, district cabinet secretarytreasurer, district governor, Lions of Illinois Foundation board member, parliamentarian of the Council of Governors, multiple district Strategic Planning Committee member, and council chair. He also served as associate editor of the state Lions magazine and as a presenter at numerous club, district, and state seminars; and

Whereas, in recognition of his service to the association, Director Wahl has received numerous awards, including the club Award of Merit, two club Lion of the Year Awards, the 100% District Governor Award, Lions of Illinois Foundation Key Ambassador Award, the International President’s Leadership Award, three International President’s Certificates of Appreciation, the International Key Membership Award, and the International Extension Award. He has also had twentythree years perfect attendance and is a Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow and a Melvin Jones Fellow; and

Whereas, Director Wahl is also active in numerous professional and community organizations. He currently serves as president of the Community Players Theatre board of trustees, a member of the Fine Arts for Fine Causes board of directors, and a volunteer for the United Way, from whom he received the 25 Year United Way Volunteer Award; and

Whereas, Mr. Wahl has been involved in Friends of St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation as coordinator and board member and the Streator Community Credit Union as board member and supervisory chair, and he has served on the board of the Streator Unlimited and volunteered for the American Red Cross; and

Whereas, in his work life, Director Wahl has worked in the healthcare field as a risk manager and a foundation coordinator; and

Whereas, Director Wahl and his wife, Jama, also a Lion, have one daughter who is also a Lion; and

Whereas, Director Wahl will be in South Carolina for the South Carolina MidWinter Conference, and the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend to him a warm South Carolina welcome and recognize his efforts on behalf of the Lions Clubs. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly welcome Walter R. “Bud” Wahl of Streator, Illinois, a director of the International Association of Lions Clubs, to South Carolina and commend him for his tireless efforts and leadership on behalf of the International Association of Lions Clubs.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Walter R. Wahl.
