Teachers Workshop open to all interested K-12 teachers in surrounding area

“Air quality assessment and its impact on children’s health”

This free workshop is open to all interested parties as well as primary and secondary school teachers in the Ohio Valley area. In this workshop, we will tour the west Louisville area commonly known as “Rubbertown” and discuss in detail the various air emissions as well as health related effects. The tour is expected to last 2.5 – 3 hours.

After lunch, we will reconvene at the University of Louisville School of Medicine for a detailed discussion of air toxics as well as an overview of the TOX-RAP program for school systems. This discussion will be lead by current participants in the Tox-Rap program as well as by leading researchers and clinicians involved in the “Rubbertown” area

Agenda:

9:00 – 10:00 Introduction to “Rubbertown” complex and hazardous air pollutants

10:00 – 1:00 Guided tour of the “Rubbertown” complex with discussions on environmental emissions and potential hazards to children and adults

1:00 – 2:30 Lunch

3:00 – 5:00 Roundtable discussion of health hazards encountered in “Rubbertown” as well as discussion of Tox-Rap as potential curriculum for schools.
