Information based on Age of Cheerleader:

Freshman:

The sports quiz portion of your tryout will occur at the Wednesday night practice at 5:30. If you cannot be there you will need to set up a make up time. You will be given a study guide for this quiz on Monday March 9th at the first tryout meeting. The sports quiz will assess very basic sports knowledge and is worth 10 points of your 100 point tryout score.

Sophomores and Varsity:

You will be stunting for your tryout. Remember, the difficulty of a stunt is not as important as cleanliness. Judges will be told the stunt you are attempting and will be giving you a score based on the execution of that stunt.

Important info for all trying out!

àRegarding Tryout Night:

-There will be 5-6 judges; all are past or present college cheerleaders, or cheerleading coaches.

-Parents family ONLY are allowed to view YOUR tryout.

àRegarding Tryout Attire:

-On the ballot there is no space for outfits, thus matching outfits are NOT required. You need only wear PLAIN (solid color) shorts and tops. NO JEWELRY allowed (rings, watch, earrings, piercings, etc). HAIR must be up on the sides if short & IN PONYTAIL if long at ALL PRACTICES & at TRYOUTS - this is a national and state cheerleading RULE. Breaking either of these rules means disqualification!

àTryout Results: The names of all new members will be posted on Thursday evening (4/2) at 9:00 outside the entrance to the high school - door 13. In addition, this list will be posted on the internet: http://www.linnmarcheerleading.com

Any questions concerning the results should be directed to the athletic director’s office Monday 4/6. DO NOT call any of the coaches at home with questions about the results. Any student who wishes to receive their judges’ comments must remember the try-out number they were assigned and go to the athletic office during the week of 4/6. You may only see your scores if you didn’t make it, as we do not want those making it comparing who had a higher score. Once you make cheerleading you are equal members of the squad. As coaches, we appreciate all the hard work students undergo while practicing for try-outs. We know that this may be a stressful time, but please remember to keep this in perspective, eat healthy, get plenty of sleep and above all, do not let try-outs interfere with your academics.

àIf you make cheerleading, there will be a MANDATORY meeting for all cheerleaders and parents on Thurs, April 9th . Varsity cheerleaders - 4:00 for new uniform fittings

Soph cheerleaders – 4:30 for new skirt fittings

Selling/Purchase of used uniforms – 4:00

All others should arrive for start of meeting at 5:00 PM. Meeting will last until approximately 6:30PM.

àHazing - As per Linn-Mar Board Policy there will be no hazing allowed. This includes “initiation” practices. We are supporting this policy and students involved in these practices need to understand that this is in violation of the co - curricular policy. If it is found out that students participate in hazing, they will be suspended for part of their season. Please also remember that hazing is against the law and that charges may be filed.

Additional Information for Current Cheerleaders:

àYou must have your uniform turned in before you tryout! Put your name and size (if possible) on a piece of tape or paper and attach to your uniform that has been washed and placed on a hanger.
