A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE MYRTLE BEACH HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR PHENOMENAL SEASON AND THEIR 2002 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, the Myrtle Beach High School Boys Basketball Team defeated Union High School 7462 to win the 2002 Class AAA State Championship title, Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia; and

Whereas, the members of the winning team include: Brandon Armistead, Wade Chestnut, Clinton Donaldson, Carlos Gore, Ryan Grace, Ben Harper, Akeem Hemingway, Jeremy Howard, Daniel Mitchell, Jason Pulsifer, Marcus Rush, Ramon Sessions, and Matt Venuto. Terrance Brown and Joe Harrison served as the team’s managers; and

Whereas, Coach Buddy Rogers was the head coach who pushed the team toward its victories. Assistant coaches were Clifford Butler, Paul Cooper, and Steve Walsh; and

Whereas, the Seahawks Boys Basketball Team finished the season with thirty wins and only one loss and were ranked twentythird by USA Today in the Super 25 Rankings for 2002; and

Whereas, this marks the team’s first state championship win since 1987; and

Whereas, Akeem Hemingway has been named to the AAA AllState Team, the Beach Ball Classic All Tournament Team, the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Team, and the All Region VI AAA Team. Marcus Rush, Carlos Gore, and Ramon Sessions were also named to the All Region VI AAA Team, and Ramon Sessions was named to the United States National Team which will compete in the Albert Sweitzer International Basketball Tournament in Germany; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize such an outstanding and honorable team as the Myrtle Beach High School Boys Basketball Team, the 2002 Class AAA State Champions. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Myrtle Beach High School Boys Basketball Team on their phenomenal season and their 2002 Class AAA State Championship and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Myrtle Beach High School Boys Basketball Team.
