A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE GAIL L. REARDEN OF WALTERBORO UPON THE OCCASION OF HER GRADUATION FROM THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA ON MAY 18, 2001, WITH A DOCTOR OF MEDICINE DEGREE AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN HER CHOSEN SPECIALTIES OF INTERNAL MEDICINE AND WORKING WITH ELDERLY CITIZENS TO IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH CARE.
Whereas, Gail L. Rearden is a native of Walterboro. She is an excellent student. Gail graduated from Duke University in May 1997 with a triple major in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry, American history, and African-American Studies; and
Whereas, on May 18, 2001, Gail Rearden graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston with a doctor of medicine degree after going through the school’s parallel curriculum; and
Whereas, Gail was selected by MUSC to participate in the parallel curriculum, a problem-based learning program which instills in its students strong clinical skills and teaches them to be more effective, independent thinkers; and
Whereas, Miss Rearden excelled in her medical school studies. She was a South Carolina Graduate Incentive Recipient from 1997 to 2000; she was awarded a summer research fellowship and presented a paper based upon her research on spinal cord injuries; and she has been appointed to the Sea Island Medical Center’s Board of Directors; and
Whereas, Miss Rearden’s career goals are to complete her residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in geriatrics. She enjoys working with the elderly and has demonstrated the compassion and empathy to touch people’s lives as their doctor; and
Whereas, members of the House of Representatives are heartened with the success of this young woman who has set high educational goals for herself and who demonstrates love and dedication to her fellow man and her community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Gail L. Rearden of Walterboro upon the occasion of her graduation from the Medical University of South Carolina on May 18, 2001, with a doctor of medicine degree and wish her continued success in her chosen specialties of working with elderly citizens to improve their health care.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Gail L. Rearden.
