A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF CITY OF SUMTER POLICE CHIEF HAROLD JOHNSON AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY UPON HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, City of Sumter Police Chief Johnson is married to the former Linda Marie Edwards, and together they are the proud parents of one son and two daughters; and
Whereas, he is a member of Crosswell Baptist Church in Sumter; and
Whereas, Police Chief Johnson received an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Sumter Area Technical College in 1977, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo College in 1983; and
Whereas, he is a member of the Sumter Masonic Lodge, Sumter County Law Enforcement Coordinating Council, International Association of Chiefs of Police, South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association, and South Carolina Police Chiefs Association; and
Whereas, Police Chief Johnson has received numerous awards and honors which include: 1998 American Legion Service to Mankind Award from American Legion Post 15; 1994 American Legion Service Award from American Legion Post 15; 1993 International Association of Chiefs of Police National Chiefs Challenge Award; 1993 J. T. McCain Police Service Award; and 1992 Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement; and
Whereas, since July 1, 1990, he has served as Police Chief for the City of Sumter. Prior to his service as Police Chief, he held numerous law enforcement positions which included: Patrolman; Master Patrolman; Detective Drug Officer; Uniformed Patrol Sergeant; Uniformed Patrol Lieutenant; Detective Lieutenant, Investigations; Detective Lieutenant, Narcotics Unit; Captain, Narcotics Unit; and Captain, Personnel Bureau; and
Whereas, among his many accomplishments, Police Chief Johnson established a citizens advisory community which successfully improved relations between the Sumter community and the police department and obtained modern equipment and higher salaries for his police officers; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to recognize the many accomplishments of Sumter Police Chief, Harold Johnson, upon his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the many accomplishments of City of Sumter Police Chief, Harold Johnson, and extend best wishes to him and his family upon his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Police Chief Harold Johnson.
