A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE J.L. MANN ACADEMY BOYS TRACK TEAM OF GREENVILLE UPON WINNING THE CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN COLUMBIA SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2001, AND WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina applaud the coaches and young men of the J.L. Mann Academy Boy’s Track Team on a remarkable victory over Hillcrest High School Friday, May 11, 2001; and
Whereas, the team’s dual meet record for 2001 was an outstanding eleven wins and no losses. The boys finished third in the GreenvilleSpartanburg County relays behind two AAAA schools, but they triumphed with first place finishes in the Greenville County meet and the Peach Blossom Region meet; and
Whereas, seven J.L. Mann athletes qualified in eleven events for the state meet in Columbia where the Patriot boys tied with Seneca for the State Championship each with seventyeight points to win the State Class AAA title; and
Whereas, the dedicated and determined members of the winning team were Ranzino Valentine, Kedrick Martin, Quentin Oliver, William Gilbert, Dan Brown, Sam Brown, Jonathon Gray, Ivan Dooley, Dekiyas Coleman, Matt Bolt, Kell Baldwin, Matt Patrick, Moses Sullivan, Torrey Shumate, Bobby Downs, Michael Shaw, Brandon Hopkins, Kelly Fields, Charles Barnes, Luke Brunson, Michael Brown, Toby Hollingsworth, Eric Penkert, Paul Graham, Matt Bowers, Michael Gilmore, Crispin Shelby, Patrick Reid, and captains Michael Hatch and Brandon Bartholomew; and
Whereas, these young men were coached by Clarence Lewis and assistant coaches, Bill Linn, Nathan Cochran, and George Moss. The team had much support from the Athletic Director, Deb Osborne, and Principal, Leroy Elrod, as well as parents, friends, and other school officials; and
Whereas, the General Assembly sincerely congratulates the coaches and members of the J.L. Mann Academy Class AAA State Championship Boys Track Team on their outstanding season and impressive championship meet. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the members of the J.L. Mann Academy Boys Track Team of Greenville upon winning the Class AAA State Championship in Columbia Saturday, May 12, 2001, and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to J.L. Mann Academy in Greenville, South Carolina.
